Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
factory rubber or poly?
That's probably why I thought the largest OEM rear bar was 19...
Just checked online, nothing listed for 21mm and only have the 15, 17, 19mm for the rear the ones that ES has in their catalog.1988GTU wrote:Was at autozone the other day and they had the 21mm in stock according to there pc inventory.

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
I ordered poly because i don't want to use rubber, ill try to make the 19mm ones work, hopefully they work as is because boring/milling/turning poly is a PITA

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
Just get a generic 21mm bushing to use... not that difficult.

Check with summit for another brand that will fit. Otherwise from my opinion, standard replacement rubber really isn't going to be that much different over poly in this instance.Slinky wrote:I ordered poly because i don't want to use rubber, ill try to make the 19mm ones work, hopefully they work as is because boring/milling/turning poly is a PITA

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
I attempted to find other places to purchase such as advance auto, autozone, rockauto ect but no generic bushings seem to be sold for this application, my new energysuspension ones came in today but they are still 19mm and i have yet to see if they are proper size ect..
Below are to photos, first does everyone have this gap on the sides of their triangle brackets? I can shim the sides if need be, just not sure why theres an 1/8" gap on each side..
Second photo is the correct bushing vs the old bushings i ordered which were wrong, you can see they are not long enough to properly seat..

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
That looks wide enough to seat, remember sway bar stuff is designed to be squeezed a bit it's not a perfect machine fit like two pieces of metal. Regarding the a A bracket fitment, no idea, I never test fitted it to the 95+ axle.
Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
I just opened the package of the energy suspension bushings listed for a 19 mm swaybar, IMO they are too small and it will take too much effort for me to try to bore them out being rubber and all, and on top of that they do not fit properly in the triangle mounts they are very sloppy for some reason.. I'm going to try to find regular rubber OEM style bushings somewhere I guess

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
The age of this swaybar I think this is your only oem fit option... As Geoff suggested you can go universal but then you loose the edge lip...
This is making the Addco sound more and more user friendly.
Maybe put this on hold and I'll look at it when the car is here... I'm having a hard time believing the fit is that bad to where it's unusable.

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
Hmm... my "universal" bushings have an edge lip... how else would they stay in the bracket?
Look at PST's bushings and tell them you want just 2 21mm swaybar bushings. I have their bushings on my Addco bar in 26mm and have had zero problems with them.

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
You got me there... depends on the brand I guess. The other question is if they will be wide enough for that plastic bracket, he's already saying these are too narrow... My addco is on my car with 4 universal greaseable 1" ES swaybar brackets... I eliminated everything I got from Addcoheavywoody wrote:Hmm... my "universal" bushings have an edge lip... how else would they stay in the bracket?

Re: Z51 sway bar aftermarket bushing?
Yes the previous aftermarket ones i purchased were 22mm but as i said were to skinny by about 1/4" but i smashed them in and used the for a few thousand miles, but i want to do everything the right way this time, i will post pics of all 3 side by side when i get home to show the variations.. I will most likely attempt to bore/grind the newest energy suspension 19mm bushings i got that were listed to fit the z51 swaybar to see how they fit after they have the proper I.D...

The lower one has a groove that can act as a stopper.
