Kinda like asking why ppl say valentines days is a holiday... It's really not in my opinion.

I am not going to buy a box of diabetus and over priced long stem roses.. She can plant tulips.

I dont know Jon, good question. I just keep using the terms most people reference, makes this simple. Kinda like tourist season, cept you cant shoot anyone lol.

Probably because it spans from the end of January to April 15th.

Got some prep work done over the weekend. Not as much as i was hoping for, but the hardest part is over. I got eh donor trans mount removed from the frame rail and got it hammered back straight in the areas that it got a little bent. Still looks like a piece of swiss cheese, but, eh, thats what the welder is for. I got the paint stripped to the bare metal around the edges and the holes so when the time comes, just gotta wire wheel the cars frame.

Spent a good chunk of time getting the trans cleaned up too. It was a lot of work, and im pretty sure, that it had never had a bath in its life. I hit it the first time with Greased Lightning and let it soak, then hit it with the power washer. Then, hit it more with degreaser and power washing. Prolly spent a good 2hrs on it, if not a little longer.

This is after 2 hours of scrubbing and washing

Then, after another hour or so, this is where i stopped. Still needs some work, and its looking like Purple Power is my next weapon of choice. Its way stronger and works better i think.

Compared to it being solid black when it got it, i would say its really starting to look like a transmission. Also got the inspection cover cleaned too, it was solid brown. Yuck!

And before anyone asks, that dipstick tube is the one i saved from my 94 GASE that had a Quad OHC in it. Not 100% sure its gonna be a direct bolt in, but it originally came from a 92 GTZ Quad, and it worked great on the OHC motor, just hoping i can make it work on this setup. I dont like running a funnel all the way to the bottom on these trans to add/check fluid.

I received my clutch today, so now all i have to wait on is the 5spd upper t-bone mount. Im hoping it will be here by the following week so i can get the engine and trans mounted up that weekend. Im excited for what is about to come!

Slightly slow progress this week and last weekend. Im really hoping to be able to get the engine and trans out and maybe back up and running on Monday, but like i said, things are slow to progress right now. I did get some work done over the weekend. As some of you have seen i did get the pedals installed, but eh, every little bit helps.

The donor pedals had surface rust all over the mounting bracket, so had to clean them up and paint them up, didnt want rusty parts under my dash.

I was atempting to set a record and get the old out and put the new in in the same day. It turned out, i was a little expectant of the over-achiever in me. I got the old setup out, but did not make it far enough to get it all back in with the new setup. I will have pics up tomorrow.

Okay, to get everyone caught up on whats been going on, heres the pics of where im up to. From Monday.

Lifted the car under the firewall and pulled everthing out the passenger wheel well. ONly took me about 3 hours to get it all out.

Next, separated the engine and trans and dumped that bitch outside lol

Next, went on and got the donor trans frame mount measured, marked and installed. Welds are not pretty, but they wont go anywhere.

Cleaned it off after i was done welding and painted it before the surface rust started.

Still not super happy with some of the welds, but eh, you wont even see much of it, if any of them. I called it quits there for Monday and came back Tuesday night and did some more work.

Had a short night and took the next night off to get some rest, was back at it again last night. Had to order some new pressure plate bolts which i got from GM, but atleast they are new.

I went to town on the oil pan right after switching the bolts out on the pressure plate, getting it cleaned up as it was solid black, yuck! Didnt clean it 100%, but its WAY better looking now!

Went on from there and proceeded to let the trans meet the motor for the first time. Match made in heaven :)

After all that, i started bouncing around as i was getting more and more tired, but wanted to make as much progress as i could.

Pulled the console, split the carpet (replacing it down the road with new black or charcoal carpet) and removed the lower ducting, then unbolted the auto shifter assembly.

Bounced back to the motor and trans and installed a few things here and there. Not pictured is the jackshaft installed, which, i dont remember seeing anywhere that if you use the J-body open shaft, you have to do a little bit of grinding...oh well, no worries.

Next, landed back in the car and proceeded to install the cables (that took too long) and the manual shifter. Took longer than i wanted, but got em done.

At some point, when i find either the right shifter base or the console mounting brackets from a 91-96 L-body shifter to attach the console, i will pull it back out and clean it up and get it painted. Im also working on building my custom shifter i feel in love with in my old car, so that will make driving it that much more exciting.

Finished the night out last night yanking the wiper motor to replace it with one from the donor 96 so i can have delay wipers. And a pic of the awaiting clutch master mounting.

Thats all i got now. Catches everyone up on the progress. Hopefully, i can have the car driving out of the shop on Monday, we will see.
