I need to convert the area in the laundry room into an engine/transmission building room... Door access right there, concrete floor... Would be perfect, but I'd have to find a spot to store the A/C units, Beer and other drinks we have there.... :(

I do at least have a drip pan under the motor stand :) Good thing too because I dripped some Glyptal when I was painting it on.

Dedicate an area in the garage for the brewski's and HVAC stuff. I'm certain your garage wont see 'can' popping temps?

Right now it will. Unfortunately the garage is uninsulated. I have the garage getting fully insulated and having a propane heater installed in my 5-year plan, being post and beam and all rough cut wood inside and wanting to keep that appearance makes for a bit more planning when it comes to figuring out a way to insulate it. And my wife agrees with me on that. This spring it's the master bathroom overhaul first.

Toss an accommodating sized cooler in the garage to maintain the temps for the beverages. Works for when I hold a party at my house and the only room for drinks is out on the patio. That's in 100% elements. We had a lot of negative degree temps too. None were sacrificed in the storage cooler. :D

A cheap and ugly way is to use radiant barrier. Had to use that downstairs because I didn't want fiberglass falling down on my head. The barrier helps reflect heat, but doesn't work much as an insolator. The ugly part is that it is foil faced. Good thing about that is that it reflects light. One more good thing is that it costs much less.

Finished up the second coat of Glyptal tonight and did some measuring of the crank.

What did the can run ya?

It's $49 for the can and you only need enough to coat the steel good so two coats is fine... Barely used any of the can too which is a bit of a bummer.

The only other bummer is you can't paint around the cam because it's not accessible like the old school small block engines. You can only get the valley and underside.

Man that looks nice. Always wanted to use that stuff on an SBC. Just never had the time. Couldn't find anyone to help me carry the short block up stairs (lazy friends LOL).

It's got an LSX block heater in it... LOL

And your backwards, those are powercoated orange on the outside and don't have an internal oil shedding coating, they are plain cast.... At least that's what I can find online for images of LSX blocks.

Bought this on Ebay to pre-warm the coolant before starting. Yeah I'm being that crazy about this engine.

Did a bunch of measuring last night on the crank, and mains as well as piston bores and pistons. Came up with .0025 clearance with my measuring tools and the plastigauge says .003 so I'm fine with that.

Hope to measure and spec the rod bearings and journals tonight but we'll see... Parents house is leaking from ice dams so from 2:30 till 6:00 yesterday I was on a ladder with a hammer and chisel making an ice sculpture... gotta go back today and get rid of as much as possible.

Got some more time to work on it last night... During rough assembly I noticed the main studs did not all sit at the same height so I had to get a M11x1.5 tap and clean up the threads on all of the main holes. Once I got that done and all cleaned up I was able to move on to more major assembly.

Got a rotating assembly now with the mains torqued down. Just need to torque all the rods and then get the windage tray and oil pump on... Then onto cam install and hopefully I'll have my heads by then so I can measure the pushrod length. Slow and steady... LOL

Also got conformation from Jeff at EP that he is shipping my LSD 4t60e-HD diff this Sat, So I'll have all the parts for that so I can start to figure out what else needs to change.
