Re: Don't mess with texas - 3400 swap project
So great news, it seems the leaking coolant line was causing my speedometer issues! Car seems to be working great!
Next to fix is the AC, hopefully it's a mild repair!

You just can't have the system enabled and the bottle open that I know of.themixer wrote:NOS - not sure i need it for this trip, may be hard to explain taking it over the boarder.
Just do not talk about NOS to the border agents.

Re: Don't mess with texas - 3400 swap project
Cavalier Z-24 16" rims, circa 1997. I ran the set from my '97 Z-24 on my Turbo 'Retta for a while, but for some reason it made the car sit wrong and made it look like a giant Matchbox car.
Now they are scattered amongst my front-drivers as full-sized spares.
I like those sun-visors! Nicely done. I have Olds Aurora sun-visors in my '90 'Retta, it is a cool set of visors but don't fit right like yours do...

Don't seem to be rounded enough, looks more like G6 wheels to me. I see a 97 Z24 every weekend.

Rettax3 is correct 1997 z24 wheels with 2003 ztype centers. I spent many hours sanding them and prepping for a professional base clear paint. They were the second set of wheels my original 1995 2.2 Beretta had on them (painted white back in the day). He is also correct about the stance, the offset seems a little different but still personal preference going to keep them on the car they hook up better than the 15" tires I had.
Blast from the past looking though old blackberry pics! Hopefully people on the forum like pictures of old rusty berettas!

Oh yes! Got the AC system charged up last night and leak tested. Passed but still am unsure how removing the engine made the AC system loose its charge. Must have a very small leak, but as long as it works while going to Mississippi!

I will probably be bringing my AC tools with me to MS so we could mess with it if necessary. I got an nice new gauge set and a vac pump that pulls 30inHg easily.

Must have those G6 wheels stuck in my mind. Kind of like the looks of them.

Man, you are so right about the way those wheels effect the Beretta's grip -I don't think I was able to turn my '90 hard enough to lose lateral traction, and I was actually able to launch that car pretty good with those wheels on it too, whereas everything else I've had on it just spin, with or without the turbo spooled. It is really bad on that car now, since I got the 3.4 with the headers and the big-@$$ T-4 together and back under the hood.themixer wrote:Rettax3 is correct 1997 z24 wheels with 2003 ztype centers. I would suspect a freon leak at one of the swedged fittings where the rubber hoses meet the aluminum hard-lines. Once they get old, moving them around as much as pulling the engine out requires can cause them to start leaking. Charge it up with a UV dye freon, and trace it down with a blacklight.
Oh, and rusty or not, we do love those Beretta pics!

Re: Don't mess with texas - 3400 swap project
Bad news tonight there is some metal floating around in the transmission! So mine is being ripped off and sent to the dealership for repair. 240k on trans with 80k of my aggressive driving about 5-8k on the 3400 swap. I think it had a good life.
I read that heavywoody may have a rebuild kit no longer required so sent a PM, if not going to order one off ebay. Hopefully the bearing that is no longer available is still good on mine.
Not a good day but shouldn't be too bad to change out.

Man we get totally ripped off in Canada. $80 to ship these small parts up here, and still 16 business days for delivery.
