Strange Loss of power

Post by Guest »

Ok, I've seen this posted once or twice, but I never saw an answer....
Problem: When my etta warms up and driving it seems to lose power. Especially when it needs to shift, the motor  stays running, never stalls, if I hold the gas slow and steady and will eventually get up to speed. If I press on the gas, I can hear the motor race up like it should but its like its not going anywhere, finally it may kick it and take off. It never does it from a stop, only when it is going, ususally starts after about 20mph.
Had it checked once at shop, told me it was the battery not holding a constant 12 volt charge, and that was messing up the computer, replace the battery, still doing the same thing.

Any help? Not alot of cash flow to spend on her right now, so I can't do too much of hit and miss. Really need the car to run.

Strange Loss of power

Motor revving up but not going anywhere sounds like transmission to me.  Check the fluid.  (I'm assuming this is an automatic)  Your clutches might be fried too.  I've had that in a different car.  Gotta be a tranny issue, even if it's the torque converter.

GM makes a additive that someone said works pretty good on the trannies.

Definately sounds like a burned tranny.  Unfortunately that is a big repair.  Gotta take it to a shop for that one as it requires a very clean job (more than an engine even) and very specialized tools.

Hey, just FYI. To my problem I was having where the car didn't want to go as I was cruising down the road...it was the Mass Air Flow Sensor. Replaced that and runs like a champ again.
