Some People.. Just Shouldn't Work On A Car...

Post by Rettax3 »

This might be a fun continuous thread.. You know, for the few people still active on here? :sorry:

Today, I drove a friend's car home to work on the starter -reman POS is dying just six months after installation... I ordered a NEW starter for them, the reman can go back to the store under warranty RETURN. It isn't easy to replace on this car either, mounted at the rear of the engine and accessed from underneath, the options are to remove the exhaust-pipe or the right wheel and splash-guards... Stupid.

While driving it home, I noticed the left low-beam was aiming into oncoming traffic, the right low-beam illuminating only perhaps the nearest 12-feet of roadway, and switching to high-beams revealed an apparent attempt to hunt for tree-climbing squirrels or signal low-flying aircraft. Quite the feat, considering the car has one-piece composite headlights... It reminded me of the Home Improvement episode with actor Jack Elam, where his character stated that he retired from a job aligning headlights at an automobile factory in Detroit...

As it turned out, one high-beam bulb was burned-out, and ALL FOUR bulbs were flopping around loose in their sockets. :fool: I don't know who 'tried' to put in the bulbs, but...

I've had a few interesting ones over the years. The ones I remember are SHANE'S rubber undercoating all over everything inside & out on that 91. Jesus motherfart.
My red Blazer had a crusty fuel return line with rubber slid over it and about 10 hose clamps. Also had 1/2" bolt ram-rodded into the M12 body mounts so I had to cut the shells open and replace the cross threaded junk.
Problem is the era of cars that I like to buy are in high shcool kid's budgets now. The Burb and that Blazer were both from young & dummies. haha

My favorite one, and forgive me if I posted this before, was back when I was working a second job at an auto-parts store, trying to put enough income on the books to qualify for our home-loan.

We had a regular customer at the time, doing a bunch of work on his Jeep (Grand Cherokee, I think it was). NOT a younger guy either, maybe late forties? I think He had done some small job, and realized how 'easy' it was to work on his own car and save a bunch of money...

Before long, he was up to working on his brakes... I answered the phone one day and recognized his voice. He identified what rig he was working on too, so I was certain it was him. His problem was, he said, that he couldn't get his grease-gun to latch onto the zerk-fitting on the calipers he had just bought from us, and did it require some special adapter?

If you know, you know.

He laughed it off when I told him what he was doing wrong, but then yelled at me over the phone when I tried to give him basic advise on how to bleed-out the brakes, stating that he 'knew how to bleed brakes!' Well, obviously! With a grease-gun...
