3400 5-speed
3400 5-speed
So I was thinking the other day about one of the 3400 5-speed swaps one of the members did on here, and it made me wonder what transmission was used to bolt up to the 3400, since GM never did offer that particular V6 with a manual option. Would the switchover be any more complicated than a typical 3.1 5-speed swap?

The hm-282 was used. The same transmission used in all manual v6 berettas. The quad4 tranny can be used but a V6 bellhousing needs to be swapped on for it to bolt to the 3400.

same trany as a 3.1L used. Its more complicated if doing it in a 94+ car since they were never offered that way.

So the ECU will work with the 3400 setup? What about axle lengths? Will the 3400 axles be too long?

You want to use the axles for the transmission, not the engine.
If you are going to make it work on a 92+ car, you need to make sure you have the right length axles w/ ABS reluctors on them so ABS will still be functional.

I figured as much with the axles, I just am not sure if I can use the ones from the 3400 (I assume not) to make the manual work (I have a 3.1 auto, my bad I didn't clarify this one the first time--hence the confusion). Otherwise, I'll have to hunt down some axles from a 5-speed Beretta or J-body to use instead.
But the real concern is what ECU will work with the setup? Will a 3.1/manual ECU work ok paired with the 3400 motor? Well, for that matter, will the entire switchover for the 3400 work with all the 3.1 components (transmission, clutch, ECU, axles, etc)?

all the 3.1 parts that you listed will work fine with a 3400.
