Stalling out

Post by TopherRM »

I have a base 94 Beretta 3100 V6. I have only had it for a year. It has been running great until about 3 weeks ago. I was driving in town when I came to a stop and my car stalled out. It started just fine but kept stalling out and every time it would start harder than the time before. It was also raining at the time so I thought that water got in the alternator. What I did to keep the car from stalling was put in neutral before I came to a full stop. I was able to drive like this for about a week and a half, and then if I drove it longer than say 20 min. it would stall out no matter what. Well now it’s just stalling out as soon as the car stops moving and it has trouble going up hills and will only run for about 5 min and then it won't start back up. I checked to make sure that the batter cables were on tight and they weren’t. I tightened them and it seemed better but it stalled out on my anyway. I can let it sit for a day or so and it will start up just fine. But it will stall out on me, it might start for me once but after that it just gets worse. When I tray to start it back up all the dash lights dim and then just go out. I have tired to jump it but it won't seem to keep the charge. Help. P.S. The batter is only a year old.

Stalling out

Are the wires tight on your alternator?  A parts store can test the alternator for you...maybe the battery too.
