92 gtz 5 speed possesed! electrical problem
Hi everyone, having a wierd problem. I have a 92 GTZ w/ 5-speed, 120k miles
Ran great, I put a new cd player in it. Cd player has ipod hookup, so i put my ipod on and drove it around for about a week, everything good.
Today I try to start it in the morning, the car started cranking then died. All electrical power lost. I shut it off and turned the key to run. The dashboard started going nuts. All the light were flashing on and off, the gauges were going up to the stops, then going back down. the tack actually did a couple of full rotations. the cd player would not turn on.
so i unpluged the cd player from the dash and made sure the plug harness was not exposed and touching anything. with the radio not even hooked up, it still does this. It now starts freaking out and even the door locks start engaging and disengaging like crazy. The alarm comes on but really really quiet and wont go off when i hit the alarm button.
Ill leave it off for about 30mins and everything goes back to normal. Ill get in the car, the alarm works fine, the interior lights work good, but when i turn the key all power dies and then it starts freaking out again.
It is not the radio, it is not hooked up. Ive been looking for a bad ground under the hood, but everything looks good. Tomorrow im gonna start pulling fuses, but i dont know what else could cause this besides a demon possession.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Possibly the ignition switch on top of the steering column under the dashboard (not the one the key goes in). The ignition switch is what provides power to different accessories depending on what position the key is in.

Do a load test on your battery. Had exactly the same problem about 3 months ago, turned out my battery couldn't take a load any more
