Diagnostic Dash warning lights

Post by cwh »

Hi all,

I have just bought a 1993 GTZ Beretta with the Quad 4. I am in the UK and dont have any service manuals.

The problem is the engine light on the dash is on all the time even though the car seems to run ok, dont think it has quite the 180bhp its meant to though?

A light shaped as an upward arrow also flashes on when I apply the throttle.

Could anyone please tell me what these warning lights actually mean. Thankyou!

You may be able to check the trouble codes by using the paperclip trick (pretty sure it still worked on '93 GTZs).  That could give you an idea as to what is causing the Service Engine Soon light to come on.  Just tell us which trouble codes come up and someone will post what they mean.  The up arrow that flashes when you accelerate is the Upshift light.  It tells you the ideal time to shift into the next higher gear for better fuel economy (it's not always the smartest thing in the world).  Most of the Quad 4's power is made at higher RPM.  You should feel it really kick in at around 4,000 RPM.  I think '93s had 175hp, but don't quote me on that
