Want some new struts? What brand springs to buy? How much camber to run? What brake pads? What's the best setup for your situation....

Strut removal

Post by toddsyx66 »

I have to replace the struts on my 94 Z26. I got the nuts off of the two lower bolts that connect the strut to the axle. My question is are these bolts threaded all the way through or should the just popout Because the donot seem to want to budge. Is there also aspecial socket to fit the head of the bolt?

Thanks all!!

Those bolts are splined... and are probably rusted in pretty good...

When I did my struts, I turned the steering wheel so I could get better access to the bolts... and using an 8lb sledge, they came out...

You will want to get new ones from a 96, as those are supposedly easier to remove.

Make sure you use penetrating fluid on the bolts before you try to get them out...

If all else fails, and they STILL won't budge, remove the strut/steering knuckle assembly from the car, and then go to town on the bolts.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info thats what I thought I would have to do. I was just making sure before I stripped something out. Amazingly enough I still love this car, I bought it for 800 and now have almost 1500 in it. If thats not a sign of a car nut I don,t know what is.

Thanks alot!!!
