Completely at a loss

Post by toddsyx66 »

I have a 94 Z26 with a 3.1. Yesterday on my way to work the engine just chugged and would cause the whole car to shudder. i couldn't get abouve about 50 mph without the whole car feeling like it was shaking apart.  It is ideliing rough and it looks like my oil has been filled with gas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Any codes? When is the last time you changed the O2?

No codes, O2 sensor has not been changed. Would this actually cause the engine to go haywire this bad? I mean I literally went through a 1/4 tank of gas in a twenty mile stretch. The engine also does this wether it is warm or up to temperature. I have had this car for a total of about 6 months. I have fixed or replaced a ton of stuff. I have only been able to drive it reliably for about a month. Problem is I still this car! Don't want to throw in the towel just yet.

Thanks for your Help!

A bad O2 can suck down the gas, but I'm not for sure that it's not just the O2(it could also be the lower intake gaskets). The O2 is the cheapest thing to try. I have put in much more than this car will ever be worth and I still won't give up.

Well dove into the car and found a couple of things. The vacuum is holding steady at about 17 inches. But I did find that one of my coil packs had a crack in it and it looks like there is some rust in there. So hopefully that is the problem. Well here we go into round 4.

The coil has rust? I had a coil go bad and it was shooting an arc. Is yours doing that or is the coil dead? The coil has oil in it and copper wire.

Amazingly enough the beast is alive again!! I found the problem by shear accident. Was working on it in the evening and the lights went out while the car was running. Low and behold I was able to see a fireworks show coming from behind the engine. Wouldn't you know it was a bad plug wire. Fixed and better than ever.
Thanks if your ever in town, I'll buy the beer!

Very good news! Glad to hear you are up and running. I don't know if I'll ever make it that far north, If I do I'll take you up on that offer.
