misfire Pls help

Post by 2loud4u »

Hi i'm new to this board    i recently got a 95 beretta with a 3100 in it i just replaced plugs, wires, pcv, fuel filter, air filter, trans flush a fillter,  ran great..  then about a day ago it started to misfire at idel, accelerating hard or easy,  when coming to a stop it stumbles almost stalls, and crusing at 105 km\h (55mph)  rpm's are around 2000 it has a bad stumble , still has some pep but not the same. Happens when it is hot or cold  the exaust smells like poo (rich) the car did sit for some time befor i got it ,   have checked the wires and plugs checked for vacume leaks, pres at the fuel rail is fine . would a dirty egr or a bad o2 do this

I'm not a beretta guru but since you said it was sitting, running rich/smelling bad the o2 could be very possible in my opinion also a dirty air sensor could be it. I know iwas getting o2 codes on my thunderbird, cleaned up the maf and its ran good since then

Edit; also changed the fuel filter, ran injection cleaner and just sprayed the crap out of the throttle body on it (who wants to do it the way in this weather) lol

Either run your codes with a jumper or get them run by Autozone or the like (it's free). I would check the IAC and clean it out along with taking the TB assembly apart and cleaning it out. Just wondering, you said your exhaust smells like "poo". Sweet and sour smell or fuel smell? Check your oil for milky residue if the former. GL.

Oh, and just so you don't pull a Speedy, and set your car on fire, remove the cowl and clean out any squirrel or hornet's nest or other debris that may be there. J/K Speedy.

no milky residue in the oil
the smell of the exhaust  a bit of both more of a fuel   no smoke   is there a way to check the codes  with out a reader   remember it's a 95 so it has odb 1.5
here we have parts source  and i dont think they do code reading

Ok, for some '95's (and I think yours should be one of them) you can do 2 things. The obvious, buy a scan tool. Or...you can use the paper clip trick on your ALDL (Assembly Line Diagnostic Lead aka plug under your dash). To do this on OBD 1.5 ,short terminals 5 & 6, fifth and sixth from the top left respectively. You will get a code 12 three times. 1 flash and two in quick succesion equalling one code 12. After that your trouble codes will start to flash. Count the flashes and write down the codes. Each code will be flashed 3 times. When done, code 12 will flash again indicating the code reading is done. Let me know what codes you get and I'll decode them for you. GL.
