OK
I have a 92 GT with a stock V6. The motor went bad, and I needed a new one, so I bought a remanufactured long block, and I quote: "189 cubic inch 3.1 liters V6 OHV... vin code "T"... 91-93 Beretta"
Everything was going smoothly, untill I went to transfer the crank shaft position sensor. On my old motor, the sensor was cylindrical, inserted onto a long hole in the side of the center of the block. The sensor reads a ring with notches in it magneticly.
On the new motor, it had the same crankshaft, with the sensor ring, and a mounting hole for the sensor, but not hole for the sensor itself. The company I bought it from says that there were different types of sensors on GM V6 beretta engines, that did not have that hole in the block.
It is clear to me, and the GM tech I happened to have with me, that this was the wrong block. This crankshaft and this block do not go together at all.
I have pictures, first, the old motors sensor hole. second, the new motors lack of a hole, and lastly the new motors crankshaft sensor ring:
How do I find out for certian that there were no beretta V6 91-93 engines that had the crank position sensor somewhere else, and prove that they sent me the wrong block.
Help me please,
Edward Anchak

Hrmm looks like you received a rwd block from a s10 or mullet mobile. Might want to send it back.
Question: Does the new block have a distributor cap or is it different than what you have on your Beretta engine?

I do want to send it back, but they would hold me responsible for the $160 shipping, and hold %20 of my refund for restocking. They will not admitt a mistake on thier part.
The rest of the long block, other than that one sensor hole, is identical to my old block. I was almost done transfering everything.{Edit} I already transferred {edit} The exhaust manifolds, intake, plenum, flywheel cover, valve covers, everything is identical except this one frusterating thing.
I'm wondering if maybe other berettas or some of the olds, or pontiac that used the same engine had the crank sensor in another location, and if so, was the crank different?

That block was more than likely used for a carb setup. You could probably drill out the hole and call it a day, but you better make sure you drill it correctly and you'd want to make sure no debris from drilling will get stuck up in there. Have fun!

Yes, eat the cost and send it back. Where did you get this block? I bet I know. When you get the right one be sure to post all info. Man, that sucks!

So far, heres the plan. Since I can feel myself being ripped off at the seams, I am going to call my credit card company, and dispute the charges as I never recieved what I ordered.
Then I will talk deal to the company.
Will post details in the future for sure.

Could have been an error in the casting of the block... who knows but the company should make good on it. If not there's always the BBB that you can report them.

Ok, heres the issue.
I know all my options, but I just want something firm I can go to the company with to say "This proves that you sent me the wrong engine for my car".
He advertises "91-93 beretta", how can I prove beyond a doubt that this motor is not a rebuilt motor that will fit a "91-93 beretta"?

What about casting #'s would that work? Try to be nice about it and just say that you want the right one. You don't want a long battle and have your car down while you work it out. If you fight he will do the same, I know that you are mad(I would be too). Let him make the first wrong move and then jump all over him. Give him a chance to make it right first. You still didn't say where you got it.

Thats probabily the best Idea I've heard yet, thanks.
By the way, the name if the company is "Automotive Precision Machinery/ Atlanta Performance Motorsports" Kindof fitting for a two faced company to have two different names.

Yea, the casting # is the the best way. That way they can't say, no we sent the right one. Well, I don't think it was the same place that I was going to buy a new engine from(I'll have to check for sure), but it was listed the same way in the text, not there would be much of a change. Hang in there man, you will get through this!
