Engine won't completely turn over

Post by havoc »

When I try and start the car it only does like a quarter turn. As far as i know the starter motor is good. The previous owner had it in his yard for about six months but before he parked it there it ran fine. Any ideas on what is keeping it from turning over?

You could have something in the cylinder (s) preventing it from turning over.  Try and turn it over by hand using the nut on the crankshaft.  If you still cant turn it then I would remove all the spark plugs and then see if it turns over by hand.

We finally got it to turn over, But now my fuel pump isn't working. I'm just going to take it off any see if its busted or not. Any ideas on other things that may be keeping the pump from running?

They go bad, a new one will not hurt. Fuse? I'd try #1 or #9, but those #'s are for a 90.

I don't remember, it's been some time(I think about 200, but could be less). You will need one later down the road anyway if that's not it right now. Took mine to a cheap shop that does good work and had them put a new GM one in.There is a long story about another shop that screwed it up twice, but I won't go into it now. Labor is what is going to be the big cost.

Sounds like the motor may have been frozen/locked up to me. I would pull the plugs and at least eyeball the cylinders to see if you see any debris in there. IF it was locked up and you freed it, there is a damn good chance you just destroyed the rings.

I think your starting and pump problems are caused by the same thing. low voltage, get a new battery. and the fuel pumps run at about $90 btw.
