Wheel Bearing
Wheel Bearing
Hey guys, I just got around to changing all the wheel studs on my '90 today to put my 16's on it. I had to pull the hubs off the front to change the studs, and when I put it all back together, my right front wheel is squealing like the bearing is bad. Is there a torque spec on the main hub nut? I just used the impact to put it back on, but I'm not sure if I'm correct in doing that. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Wheel Bearing
There is a spec for the wheel nut, but I'm not in front of a manual right now to recite it. It is something like 190 ft-lbs. Depending on how high you have the impact set you might have overdone it I suppose. If there are a lot of miles on the bearing it could be that it didn't take much to finish it off either. Bearings aren't that expensive- like $35 at Autozone, etc. I've bought my share- with more to come on my autox car before the season starts!

Re: Wheel Bearing
dont have a book but generally cars are around 180 ft lbs and if you have a decent gun then chances are you are way over that so id suggest torqueing it right then driving it if you hear a howling noise coming from that side the wheel bearing is bad just go buy one put it in and torque it and then have a good day.
P.S. i agree with quad4 if its the oe bearing you probable just put it over the edge. if you tell me the specific model i can look on shopkey tommarow and tell you what the spec is.
