exhaust fumes?
I have a question regarding my exhaust. I was working on my car this past few days and i've noticed that the exhaust fumes are quite strong and i'm not sure if it's due to a faulty exhaust system. What exactly should i be looking for if i needed to replace the exhaust system for? thanks for your help.

I'm guessing you mean they're strong while you're under the hood? I would say check your exhaust manifold gaskets and your donut gaskets where the manifold meets the pipe and your crossover joins up. GL.

what i mean it's that even being outside if i crank the car up the smell is quite strong and my girfriend even gets light headed. I believe that the fumes as too excessive but i've the exhaust syste and there are no whole or anything like that. Is there a valve or something that could be causing my car too run rich and therefore causing the excessive smell?

Need more info!
Do you have a Service Engine light on?
Could be O2 sensor, bad cat, but that smells more like rotten eggs, or just a blocked up exhaust.
Your car is OBD 1 so you can get the codes with a paper clip.
That would help alot in figuring out the problem.

From this and your other thread, I would say you DEF have a clog in your exhaust somewhere. Clean the EGR and tube, pull the exhaust manifold and check for blockages. If this doesn't solve it, drop the Cat and see if the car runs right. Did this car sit awhile? I'm getting a sneaking suspicion you may have a new family moved in....you know, mice....

Really depends what you mean by fumes dude. If it smells like gas, probably O2, if it smells like sulfer (rotten eggs) probably more looking at a Catalytic Converter type of thing. But there could be other problems too causing it to run rich and smell like fuel, if it infact smells like fuel.

I'm not sure what he thinks burning gas smells like . My bets would be it needs a tune up or o2. Heck, the air filter could be clogged .
