So many issues...

Okay. Its an 87/88 beretta. I bought it with REALLY low miles, but hail damage. Its lifters tick loudly after warming up, if you listen by the oil pan, you can hear a rod knock. So, the engine will eventually die. My newest problems have been, one day, randomly, as i went to my store to check my codes for my check engine light, it tried dying on me 3 times. Only for a second, it would flash the check engine light, all my gauges flew everywhere and then it got better, except doing it 3 times... No new codes except my MAF/MAP (which is tps), my 02 sensor, which wouldn't cause it to die, and... i think those were the only 2 at the time. I had my bf change out the tps, idle air control valve, and the map sensor. He thinks it could be the 02, ignition mod (i've had that go out on my first beretta), crank sensor or the maf sensor again. (already been changed). The biggest thing in my mind is the computer. When the car was in the hail storm, it lost its front and rear windshield. I'm pretty sure the car got soaked. Oh, and another troubleing problem we found out the other day, i have extremely dim dash lights, we dug to find a ground, and found all my dash had been rewired. Including turn signals and headlights and just about everything. My dimmer switch works, but not on my car. (when ya got 2 berettas, its useful to test this way! ) SO, if anyone can help me, i have about given up. I love this car too much to throw it away, so please don't tell me that! THanx Much!!!!

For the hob cobbled wiring, rip the dash out, get a "new" ,correct year harness from the junk yard and plug it up. This way, first things first, you know your dash is correctly wired up. If you're sure of the rod knock, sometimes a spun bearing makes the engine run weakly and can cause it to die. I would look into the crank sensor aspect, though I believe they usually fail all at once, not a little at a time. Considering the hail/rain scenario you painted, the ECM MAY have gotten soaked, and messed up a bit. I don't think it's your cause though. GL.
