I have a 91 beretta with the 3.1L automatic.  The problem that i am having is that when it gets warm it stutters and then quits at red lights, stop signs, etc.  I thought maybe it was water in the fuel where she sat for almost 4 yrs. but dry gas hasn't helped.  If you have any ideas let me know.  Thanks in advance.

You change the fuel filter yet? Full tank of high octane fresh gas or drain the old? Try a fuel system booster/cleaner. 104+ is a good brand. The red or black bottle.

TCC...... pull the blue plug on the top front of your trans(take off the air box, it's under there) and report back.

i've done the octane boost i'll try that blue plug just gotta get a day off to do it.  thanks so much.

BTW, if it's only doing it when hot, I doubt it's the TCC. Give it a shot anyhow, but sounds like a failing fuel pump to me, if not a clogged FF. GL.

Spoken from experience with my 90GT, a TCC solenoid that was bad will only do that if the car is at normal operating temps, going over 40mph(IIRC) so the torque converter will lock up. Then while slowing down the solenoid does not pull the torque converter out of lockup so it will stall the car. It will start right back up, then if you put it in gear it will die again. Wait ~15 mins so the car can cool and you can drive again till it gets warm again and goes back into lockup. I got stranded with my GT once because of it. Pulled the plug... viola, she was fine.

Start simple. Pull the plug on the trans and see if that does the trick. I'll bet it fixes your problem.

Sorry, I pulled that plug out of the tranny.  She seems brand new now except for the blowing of blue smoke when I start her.  Its always something with these things.

Nice. Glad you got it fixed. That blue smoke is oil blow by. No worries if it only does it on startup.

Oh, and btw, HAPPY 25th BIRTHDAY!!

I was gonna say the Crank position sensor next... but aparently that fixed it...

I like how on a 3t40, its just a common thing to have the TCC unplugged... nothing strange about it LOL...

Only downfall is your gas mileage will suffer since now on the higway you will be turning like 300-400 more RPM than normal.

highway mileage not a big deal.  I never drive on the highway anyway.  I live in maine so you can get pretty much anywhere on back roads and this time of year thats the best way.   Thanks for the birthday wishes.

true however I was still seeing about 26+ MPG with the GT. There was a different FDR in the 90 from what someone told me a while back. I was running about 3K at 75mph.



On a side note I had the TCC unpluged on both my 88GT and 90GT with no problems. The 90 had it unpluged for around 5 years.
