Hello all, I have an engine that idles up around 2500
RPM hot or cold and will not come down.....
Could this be a bad IAC or a bad TPS ?
My speedo does not work but will work only when the check engine lite comes on
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks, Nitro.

Try the TPS fo the idle. I would also try to get a speed sensor for the trans, but I'm not sure why it would work with the check engine light on and not when it's off. Is there anything else wrong? Does the AC/heater work?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the heater works fine but I think the AC is out of gas.
Do think the Mass Air Sencer could be messing stuff up ?

No, I was thinking about the ECM("chip"). I lost my speedo, heater/AC and a few other things when it went out. Yours sounds like it's ok, that is if you have one(what year is your car?). Ok, the TPS is easy to do and cheap, try that first. I lost my TPS a few months ago and the idle was about 2200rpm. Recharge that AC as soon as you can, if you don't the compresser will lock up and it will cost you big. Also the defrost runs off the compresser, so it will not work as well if the compresser goes out.

Hello, my car is a 1991, 3.1 V6 Auto GTZ.
Is the TPS serviceable, I mean can it be removed and cleaned ??
Thanks, Nitro.

Not that I know of. It's best just to get a new one. I bet the old one lasted for around 100k.

On the topic of the TPS.
What would happen if I was to just unplug it until I get a new one ??
Ya! I know another dumb question..

That will not work. The computer gets info from that sensor and makes changes to air/fuel and spark timing. Get an AC Delco or better one, last I remember the AC was like 35 bucks.
