Bellhousing Question
Bellhousing Question
Ok I have the 6 cyl tranny and the Q4 Tranny.
I tried to seperate the bellhousing and it seems after an inch or so it stops.
Is there another nut or bolt to remove?
Do I need to worry about stuff popping out? (Novice)

Bellhousing Question
You have to remove the detent springs and such. They are under the black plastic cap on the inside of the bellhousing.
If you do a search on either the Fiero forums or V6Z24 forums, I'm sure you'll be able to find a step by step picture tutorial on how to separate the case halves.

Bellhousing Question
Thanks heavywoody I will look for it now.
I will be attaching the 3400 to this.
Being the novice I am should I just use the 6cyl trans instead of swapping the bellhousing?
I think I read someplace the Q4 trans is the Chosen one.
Gear ratios and what not.

Bellhousing Question
Actually, the Quad 4 gearing isn't optimal. If it was me, I'd just use the V6 gearing (and that's what I did).
What year is the Quad 4 trans you intend to use?

Bellhousing Question
Well after alot of reading on the tranny.
I have decided you are correct sir. I will just use the 6cyl trans. Both for ease of install and if I am correct ALL 4cyl trannys are isuzu and not getrag/muncie.
getrag/muncie being the better of the two.
I noticed yesterday you have done this swap.
NICE! I am gonna upload a few pics later. I am wondering if you used the Q4 trans mount or the larger v6 mount. I really dont want to weld a new bracket the car. Use of the stock Q4 mount would be ok I hope.
The trans thats on the Q4 is a 90.
Still trying to get exact year for the trans for the 6cyl.

Bellhousing Question
The 5spds in the Quad's were actually Getrags... and the 90-91 transmissions had the exact same gearing as the V6 transmissions (3.61 FDR vs the 3.94 FDR in the 92-93 Quad 4 transmissions).
If you can make the Quad 4 mount work, go for it... but wouldn't that require using the Quad 4 transmission?
Welding the bracket on isn't hard at all. I used the V6 style mount.

Bellhousing Question
They actually mount to the trans in the same spot. The Q4 mount is in a lower spot than the v6.
The V6 has the taller body bracket that comes up near the air box. The Q4 is in the same place but lower.
The Q4 mount is smaller than the V6 as well. I will get a picture of it today and post it.
