I found out I only have one option to shed weight in the brake department... And thats the 12" Baer 2 piece rotors... they don't make a set for the GA in the 11" size, that was a f-up on Auto Anythings website... big surprise...... So I'm stuck with going all the way back, trying just a stock GA setup, OR dropping 414 on a set of these Baer rotors to shed possibly 16-18lbs... of the 20 that I added.

that sucks so what were the brakes for they had listed for the grand am. iirc they were noticeably cheaper than the f-body ones.

Jon how much more weight was the N-body stuff vs the stock L-body stuff. i would think it would be pretty close or not much more since your getting the N-body aluminum caliper. wasnt the stock L-body one cast iron.

Its not about weight really its about rotational momentum.

A lighter rotor in the same diameter is going to take just about as much force to accelerate as the stock ones do, because most of the weight is removed from the center.

So even if the big brakes weighed the same as the small ones the big ones will still rob you in the 1/4th.

You probably know what I mean its just hard to explain it. Im just saying upgrading to the 2 peice rotors is probably not very cost effective.

with that at least id go with the N-body stuff. its an inch bigger so it shouldnt rape your 1/4 time as much as the f-body stuff.

Jon you are talking less than a 100 pounds!

Not to be an ash-hat but that is NOT your problem buddy!

You are NOT making any horsepower and there is either a motor or tuning issue. NOT 100 POUNDS worth of brakes.

Hell I can put a 100 pound dumbell ducted taped to my front bumper and it may slow it down by a tenth! Likely less.

Unless you have your foot on the damn brakes, or they are grabbing continually, THAT is not the reason you are down on power!!

I bet my cross laced wheels almost make up for the difference in your brakes. They are friggen heavy compared to your DR wheels.

Just think about it.

Eric, 20lbs of rotating weight is MORE of a killer than 20lbs of dead weight and I know that for a FACT.

If I had a fucking track near me then I could test more but I just don't have that so I have what I have. I KNOW that those rotors will kill your 1/4 mile like no other. Put it this way, I could be making 30hp more than you at the crank, but since I need to spin an extra 40lbs of transmission AND another 20 extra lbs of brakes... I'm down MORE than what you loose so now my WHP is less than you.

Read up... http://performancetrends.com/blog/?p=35

I work on this crap all the time with the race car I know what dead weight and rotational weight will do, hell they made us add 50lbs sprung weight to our car and we can't keep up anymore. The lighter weight 2 piece rotors will help some, Not the same as going back to stock but they would help a little, I'm also wondering if the 11" N-body stuff weighs the same or less than the 12" 2 piece camaro rotors... if they do, that will net me more gain.

If there was a motor issue I think I would have sent some part through the block when I was spraying a 100 shot... The simple fact that the motor can hold up to that shows that there is nothing wrong with it mechanical wise... unless of course I'm loosing a lobe.

Give me something to check to prove myself wrong and I'll do it. Also I know the tune is not right because once again I'm a ONE MAN SHOW AND I'M STILL LEARNING.

Don't get me wrong Eric, I enjoy your company and help but sometimes you can rub crap in to others that we dont have control over, or CAN'T afford to do, you have WAY more at your disposal than others do... You don't do your tuning, you don't build your trans and you have hours upon hours to bring it to the track to test and tweak it.... Seriously this car has 3 runs at Charlotte and 4 runs at NE on it for this year PERIOD. You also always have some comparison that is apples and orages when you try to compare our two cars... Not only do you CONTINUE to disregard that my car is still 100 % as is from the factory A/C and all, AND the heavier 4t60e, but you now think that 100lbs of static weight vs 20-25 lbs of rotating weight will be the same result?

Until you want to donate to the fun to help find the issue the I think this topic is useless and the car is as fast as it will be till I get the time to waste and money to waste on it since I need to pay for everything. And since I bought a house, thats going to be a long ways away...

The most this car will see is a run through inspection over winter and some more tuning.... Thats about all I can afford to do.

that's my story too. i bought the tuner a few years ago learned some stuff then didnt use it for a year so i forgot some things and now it starts all over again.
takes me longer to do this stuff than others i dont have oodles of time and the car is 30 min away from at any one point in time. im not in a super hurry to finish stuff. look how long it took me to get this thing sounding normal. working on it one day a week.

thats all i had planned for mine too. well get the lowering springs installed clean up some stuff but not much due to me getting shafted at work with a 32hr $230 a week and all i see is about 60-70 of that if im lucky.

still gotta buff the crap off the rear bumper. hell ive had it on the car for a few months now.

i ran horribly. i wish u were there, i would of asked you to compare yours to mine. i was the only quad, i convinced gerard(who had previously only run the 1/8 mile) to run againstme. he beet me every run. he was 16's, i was 17-18...he has an old beatup quad, and i have a 210+psi compression, w41 cams and chip, ported and polished 086, and a honed and extruded intake.

Here is the list of quickest.

Jon won Quickest overall with a 13.51 on the bottle.

I ran 14.15

Barry ran 14.18

Pat ran 14.1 something and was having problems.

Paul and Gerard are documented above. Gerard won the Quickest Quad Award.

Who did I miss?
