automatic transmission will not shift to reverse
automatic transmission will not shift to reverse
My 1995 3.1 beretta makes a strange rattling noise and will not shift to reverse. does anyone know what may be the problem and how to fix it short of replacing the transmission?

Re: automatic transmission will not shift to reverse
Do you know where the rattling noise is coming from? Does the trans shift into all other gears? I must say that I don't know very much about working on a auto trans. I think there should be a switch that would shift it into reverse. I know that there are some for shifting into and out of the forward gears. They are on the valve body. 3X00 would be the best help on this, he rebuilds and mods his own trans.

Re: automatic transmission will not shift to reverse
Probably killed the reverse reaction shell, unfortunately there is nothing you can do other than replace the transmission. I'm guessing that there will be much more carnage once you get in there that will require alot of hard parts or even a new case, so best bet is to find a 94-99 4t60e in the yard somewhere and use that.
Since you have a 95 you can swap to a 99 trans and get a 3.29 gear ratio and it will still shift properly, you are just advised to swap the ring on the differential for the one on yours so your speedo is not 5% too high... Or you can leave it. Also you will have to re-use the side cover off of your transmission so you have all 4 bolt holes for the side motor mount. And then the obvious you will need to use your range selection switch so it plugs into your harness.
Other than those 3 items, its a direct swap, better gear ratio, and upgraded internals to prevent failure in certain areas.
