I've put them in with an impact before and that seems to work just fine.

My mounts came with that metal cup for the bottom, so I'm surprised yours didn't... What else did yours come with? the metal spacer and the plastic angled one?

Mounts came with:
Bearing.
Metal ring/plate.
Rubber mount with black metal thing underneath that rests on strut shaft. (that broke on last strut mounts)
Angled plastic spacer thing.

Did NOT come with the metal black cup/washer that goes on top of the strut mount and then the strut shaft nut goes over that...

EDIT: how in the word did you put the nut on with an impact? How would you hold the strut shaft from rotating if you have a socket over the shaft going to the nut??

A quality tool gets the job done well and fast. Cannot be using those sears, vatozone, o'reilly's pieces of junk.

Exactly, the impact motion is enough to get the nut to move but doesn't spin the shaft, same reason why you can use an impact to get an axle nut off and not have to lock the bearing in place.

I was actually using a Campbell Hausfeld impact, noting too special lol :)

All these fancy power tools... I cut my stainless exhaust pipe (over 8 cuts) with a hacksaw (pipe cutter wouldn't touch it), cut the EGR adapter with a hacksaw. No it was not fun.
