Re: Major Knocking and Terrible Idle
Sounds good. Did you get a chance to pull the valve covers to check the rockers?

Re: Major Knocking and Terrible Idle
I would advise you to buy a factory manual. I found one for you cheap.

Pipes out front are simply the heater core feed line, you can safely disconnect the really short rubber hose, and then take the 8mm bolt out of the water pump housing and the 13mm supporting bolt on that pipe on the front of the head, and the one 13mm nut holding it to the TB and then you can pull up on it and remove it from the pump housing.Darkblitz9 wrote:lol, no. he haynes repair manual I have doesnt cover the 3100 so i dont know where to start, theres a few pipes blocking the valve cover and until I get detailed instructons Im not messing with it

Re: Major Knocking and Terrible Idle
I've done it a few times myself and it's not hard. You may need a new O-ring for where the tube goes into the water pump. That tube is sometimes hard to get out, so be carefull and try to pull up with one hand as you pry around with a screwdriver. There is a newer Chilton's manual out there that covers the newer cars. A factory manual would be better. If you are unsure about anything post here and we will help. When you get to the point when you are putting it back together be sure that you know the torque specs.

That one I found was $30 shipped! I would buy that if I didn't already have one.

Who needs a repair manual... I did this all by memory

All I need is a sheet with torque specs and tolerances... and thats all on 60*

Re: Major Knocking and Terrible Idle
3400's up to 2005 models fit right in, you may just want to swap oil pans, and thread the lower intake inlet for the heater core.
Also you would need to convert from the 2 temp sensors to one, unless you currently have a 96.
If you need any info on a swap just ask and SEARCH.... I know on bstuff there were threads, I'm not sure how many still exist on here, but I can definitely assist you.

Thanks so much for the help guys, especially 3X00, I'll look up a newer 3400 and get back to you guys on which of the two would e cheaper to grab. cheapest 've seen on a 3100 is 350$ which isn't bad but it's got 100k on it. I'll look around and let you know.

Re: Major Knocking and Terrible Idle
found a completely inspectd 6-191 (3.1L, VIN "M"), upper, ctr AC mtg on block drilled/tapped is the full classification, 129K but runs like a champ for 350$ then theres Carson21R's 3400 with it's blackout electrical issue for 100$, which souns better? Oh and it's getting put in by a friend but he needs info on the 3100 to 3400 if Iget the 3400, he's a good mechanic though, does boring and piston swaps for fun lol
