I believe it. Lots of 3400/4t60e cars are/were in the mid-15s. Andy ran a 15.3 and Canada ran a 15.2, but those are both with quite a few supporting mods: CAI, UDP, exhaust, FFP mounts... If I recall correctly Jeff ran a 15.7 with his 3400 Z26 all else stock.asylum wrote:Buddy Tim's 3400 '92 Cavy has yet to see a 14 with a 3.33 LSD 3t40.
I think his best is 15.13.
But you also need to consider that right out of the box OBD 1.5/II is probably better suited to run a 3400 than OBD-1 from a 2.8/3.1

This is what the masses need to see and understand.
My car with a Rodney tune, Barry with the Mega-squirt, and Lil'Jon with his OBD II experience are the exceptions! And that is what we are. Exceptions!
Alex is a highly modded application and congrats to him!! I'm there next year.
These are all pretty well tuned cars folks with wideband O2 sensors, alot of data logging and people who know what the hell they are doing.
You don't just drop in a 3400/3500 and set the world on fire!
I ran a bunch of 14.90's and some 15.0's 'til Rodney started on my tune, and it's still the most raced and time documented swap.

I don't think anybody is talking about just dropping anything in and setting the world on fire. All of these cars discussed thus far do have tuning into them and more mods than just throwing 3x00 in and calling it a day. If you want to be elitely fast, then yes there is a lot more that goes into it than what the majority of us have - save a handful of cars - but I think the recipe to get to 14.5 is going to be shown as easier than previously thought.

Alex's motor is pretty close to mine. Cam is smaller (less duration) and he has 1 less point of compression. Not sure if he has any port work done. Glad to hear he is down 2 tenths now. I recently got his tune to look over and possibly use as a base to start my tune off of and he told me it's still a WIP.

So I'm going to assume Kurt is going to take the lead on setting this up?
In any event, I'm in!
And I'm good for the trophies/awards. (Subject to B'Fest Committee Approval.)
Which track are we talking about?
It appears most activities are going to be in the North West area of Chicago, so Great Lakes Dragway looks like the obvious choice, at least geographically.
And that is one very busy facility on Friday nights.

Re: Interest Topic: BFest 2010 Drag Racing: Heads up Quick 16
I believe there is enough interest to set this up on an 8 car level.
Right now I'm waiting to hear which track will be decided upon, and once that is known I do intend to take the lead on this.
Currently I just plan on asking if we could get a couple of staging lanes, or even 1 to pair up the cars we want to run together. Beyond that I think we can handle everything else through win lights and time slips. I kind of think the more I try to ask from the track the less they will be inclined to give.
An 8 car bracket is 3 rounds and 9 runs total, we honestly only need a staging lane or two to ourselves for no longer than a half hour of the night. Given the history I know of GLD and that some of the Jbody guys have had Quick 16 races there for several years - I think they'll work with us in some form.

edit: I'm not suggesting we cram all of the Quick 8 rounds into half an hour, I more so mean 10 minutes per round that we'd need the lane(s). Unless they want to be cool and give us 2 to set up our own runs for the BFest group for the whole night. Though from what I remember of GLD it is more of a long lane set up rather than wide with many lanes.
Do you have any input on how I should discuss this with them Eric? I'm open to any advice since you're experienced in this field. My plans is just to ask for as little as possible and be polite, see what they would want if there is a price requirement.
If it all falls apart and no track is willing to work with us (which I think would be hard to believe) we'll just have to go with the traditional time slip awards.

Re: Interest Topic: BFest 2010 Drag Racing: Heads up Quick 16
Here is "my" take on all of this at this point. And I have seen the noise on B'Stuff about other models and the possibility of their inclusion in the competition.
It should be for Berettas ONLY!
We have always welcomed other cars to our events and that should certainly continue, but it is BERETTA'FEST!
If other folks want to come and have fun, hell the more the merrier, but the Quick "whatever" should be exclusive.
I have attended several J-Body events and been very welcomed, but they are VERY restrictive of the J-Body and OTHER GM classes designations.
In fact when I won the "OTHER GM" and "Quick 8" Classes at the 2009 J-Body Bash they would not even consider a run off with the J-Body winner in the event I may have won.
With all due respect we should be the same!
At least IMHO!

I agree with that, nobody who has any clout or say in this has suggested that we include the J body guys in our actual group awarding and competitions.
We have a good enough time covering our own asses, we don't need to cover theirs too. I'm totally game with them coming, and going to the drag strip with us - but what we do as a group and put money and time into we need to keep Beretta and possibly Corsica specific.

Re: Interest Topic: BFest 2010 Drag Racing: Heads up Quick 16
I would explain to them the nature of the event and ask if they could accomodate us in one lane at designated times, subject to oil downs/delays etc., at say 30 to 45 minute intervals. Take what they will allow.
IF we can get everyone there on time and ready to go we can run it from there.
Time/curfew/numbers of total cars there will be the enemy of an evening event.
After one time trial we should have 8 cars set up minus the excuses. If time allows perhaps two.
8 cars need 3 more runs. 5 in total at 45 minutes is almost 4 hours, with no problems.
Running a N/A and a second "other" class shouldn't really take much longer.
Doable under the right conditions and cooperation.
See what they have to say.

Wow, I really need to scroll down to the racing section more often
This looks like a great event! I'm sure this will have full committee support. Has anyone contacted GLD yet to check schedule and availability? I really want to have this in line with the event (and now I really want to borrow someones fast car like Cliff's so I can run N/A - my autox car is only a mid 15 sec car going straight!)
Kurt - look for an invitation email to the committee email list - I want you to keep us up to the minute on this stuff!

Well this appears to be going nowhere.
If someone of authority wants to give an OK I will contact the track and set something up, or at least see what may be the options.
I'm assumimg it would be a Friday situation, and I do know they run open testing on Fridays (or at least they always have).

Your on the committee... I think that alone is enough authority on your own part to try and get something together.

I have sent an e-mail to Great Lakes Dragway outlining our event and what we would ideally like to do.
I'll report back on what the response is.
I certainly hope this doesn't ruffle any feathers, it is not my intent in any way.
If so, I'm not hard to find.

Sometimes you just need to do something if you want anything to happen... More often than not things are put off because people don't have time, and I know you have plenty of that.
