question about selling my 95 z26...

Post by doe_darling »

i'm new on this site and i need to sell my car. it makes me so sad but it has to go. this car has been in my family forever! i cant afford to fix it and my parents say it has leave. i wanted to get opinions on how much i could reasonably get out of it. it will start and has a great motor but is no longer driveable. the brakeline is broken and it is rusting underneath. the last time it was driven was over a year ago. the body isnt too bad and neither is the interior. i'm sure most people would tell me to part it out but i would love to get some opinions. i'm located in the south suburbs of chicago and i read that there will be people coming to this area this summer for a fest. let me know what you think i should do or if you are interested. it would be so very helpful!

here is a pic, the car has stickers because i drove it in mainly in my teens!

If it's a soft brake line they are cheap. Fix it and you will get more for the car. I see no need to part it out, it looks to be a nice car.

what do you think would be a reasonable price to sell it as is? my father refuses to let me keep it since it basically is a "money pit." he would prefer we sell it and use the money towards a newer car.

I know it's not what you want to here, but it really is worth more in parts. At least the ones that are rust free.

Yup. You have wheels, ground effects, rear spoiler, door handles, tail lights, filler panels, seats, etc. that all can be sold.

How bad is the rust anyway? And where is it? Mine has rust by the rear upper spring mounts.

at one point the rack and pinion broke on it and it was repaired. thats where most of the rust is located. plus the car has always collected water in it on the driver side so that has probably made the problem worse. the mileage is 105, 360. below are a couple interior pictures. also i noticed there werent too many posts about 1995 berettas, is there a reason for this. are they not popluar or do people just hold onto that year?

GM sold less & less Berettas as the years went by...that is partly why you dont see as many newer ones.

That and 95s were OBD1.5, but not that it matters with how the car ran.

Here are the hard facts:

1: As it sits, its not going to bring a whole lot to your pocket.

2: Parting out can yield you more money for the vehicle, but then you have to deal with removing parts, dealing with people wanting to buy but not committing to buying, shipping, being accurate about condition and such, etc. Average time I see people taking to part out a car can vary from months to a year.

If looking at it depresses you, and repairing it is going to take either a fair chunk of money and/or time, you have to ask whether its worth it.

If it were me, and the rust really was an issue with the front firewall and such, I think I would scrap it. If you are really into beretta's on a whole, you could save parts from this one and move them to another project. Otherwise either sell it for the best you can get out of it, or scrap it.

As for me, if you did part it out or scrap it, I do need a drivers side tail light. But it has to NOT be cracked or tore up too bad. :P

Good luck!

Oh, and a side note. You could join us in Chicago! One place to get rid of parts faster perhaps! :D

i'm really sad about it but i know nothing about cars other than i really like mine, haha. so fixing it would cost way too much as i would have to take it to someone else to have the work done. everyone talks about parting out but i have no clue as to where i would even start. DTMAce you've given me a lot to think about. with the fest coming up i'm hoping someone who is a real lover of the cars will be interested, i'd rather have that than have it dragged off to some junk yard.
