There is no break in!
Hydraulic Roller Cam.
I actually used the old lifters because they were perfect.
So now I have a whole whack of expensive stuff I didn't use.
Brand new lifters
Comp Springs
A set of 3500 heads with 12,000 miles on them
New never-torqued head bolts
Hell I have alot of stuff here I don't need.
AND THIS LITTLE CAR IS QUICK!!
It's going to surprise some folks when Rodney is done with it.
And I have to make it VERY clear that Rodney is a fucking genius with this car.

I'll take the heads if the price is right. Are you using the PAC springs
that came with the ported heads? And you did the ls6 lifter internal right?

Re: 3500 N/A auto in the 12's?
I don't have PAC springs. I have the Comp 28986 or something springs. (may have missed number there)
One set on the ported heads and another set still new in the bag.
And I have the LS internal spring set that as far as I'm concerned, and everything I have read is simply another waste of money. But i have a brand new set of lifters to go with them.
The whole custom pushrod thing is a fucking joke! $140 and they are so close to original it's STUPID. You really can't "eye-ball" a difference!
It's a fucking hydraulic valvetrain!! What a waste of money!
Cam is 536 lift, I forget the rest . Sorry Brendan
Idles with a noticable lope, but it's not an issue with the auto. At least with this converter.
But I will have a set of 3500 heads available. Rodney may take these, but then his fresh ones with LS Springs will be available

Short block is stock.
Hell at 12,000 miles the cross hatch looks almost new. Nothing to break in there.
But it is always nice when someone who has never done it before offers advice to someone who has done it dozens of times!

Easy there... He was probably not aware of the fact that you did not tear down below the block. I had mine all apart, but I did not replace the rings or hone it so mine did not require a break in either... I just had to make sure to prime the engine because it was pretty dry after assy other than the assy lube.asylum wrote:Short block is stock.

Re: 3500 N/A auto in the 12's?
Eric is right, I have never built a used engine. We rebuilt an engine in shop class and I have paid someone else to rebuild an engine for me. I thought that you would build a new engine with all the best stuff that money could buy for your project Eric. But hell a 12k engine is almost new. Thanks for the kick in the teeth, I need that every now and then. Best wishes on your goal of getting into the 12's.

The "best of everything" is the NEXT engine, and it may be on the engine stand pretty soon.
Have to see what Rodney blows up next. LOL
He is making damn impressive horsepower, but he IS CRAZY!!!!
Very very smart guy, knows how to tune my car, and is a genius with OBD-1, but I would never trust him with setting my shift light!

Wow you have plans for another engine already? So this 12k engine is your test engine(more or less)? What are your plans for hooking up with the best stuff build? Sounds like you have enough trouble with that and the 12k engine. You getting much tire hop?

Re: 3500 N/A auto in the 12's?
I haven't pushed it yet. Rodney had it out the other night, but that was for tuning.
The one time I got on it, and it was only about 3/4 throttle in 2nd gear, it took off and left 40 feet of tire tracks on the road.
It is very fast!
But until I see time slips and can examine the 60' times and how the car reacts to all the changes, I won't know a damn thing.
And YES I have another 6,000 mile 2006, 3500 that I haven't touched yet.

In second gear? Man it's going to be hard to launch. Guess it's time for some street slicks. Damn where are you finding these engines?
When do you think you will get on the track?

I have BFG Drag Radials! The Goodyear Eagle F-1's I have for the street are useless for traction, especially when cold.
3500's are not hard to find. http://www.car-parts.com
It's only a three year production engine (2004-2006) and not all that in demand.......YET!
In fact I may buy another one this week because Rodney just loves blowing things up.
Looking at May 22 for the first time out at Cayuga. Big two day weekend.

Re: 3500 N/A auto in the 12's?
Well it appears Rodney has done his magic yet again with the OBD-1 stuff!
I drove the 3500 up to see the Quad in the body shop, and it runs fine, idles like a stock 3.1 and goes like hell, and he still has the 4.2 injectors to install.
It does have a pretty neat "lope" to it however, and that damn FA1B converter is simply amazing. Seems Billy nailed it again with the best of the best!
(Quad is being painted on Sunday after 5 weeks of prep and sanding! YA! That is alot!)
Damn! This is fun!
