Air compressor for the new garage

Post by woody90gtz »

As most of you know I'm buying a house and need a compressor for the garage. I bought a big Ingersoll Rand 80gal 5hp 15cfm compressor for my dad's garage a few years back and there's no way I can live without one now at my new place.

I've been looking on craigslist and haven't found any great deals, but did find a brand new one at Tractor Supply that looks like a pretty good bang for the buck. It's a Campbell Hausfeld 60gal 3hp 10cfm for $400. I know it's not as good as the IR I bought a while back for $1000, but I'm thinking it should be able to do everything I want to...just maybe needing to take a break now & then to let it catch up with something that draws a lot like an air grinder or something.

Any advice? It would probably be used mainly just for an impact other tools that dont draw that much air. Maybe a DA sander very rarely and a cutoff wheel when I need to "make it fit". haha

I plan to start off just running it with a hose and then running air lines around the shop later. My budget is pretty low right now with all the closing costs, etc wiping out my savings.

Does anyone have experience with Campbell Hausfeld. I did a google and they seem to be pretty decent.

mine looks the same as that but red. mine is a 7hp 60gal same physical setup as the one you posted.

i got it off a guy at work last year for $200. was gonna give him $250 but he destroyed one of the starter capacitors so payments ended there.

i finally just got around to hooking it up a few weeks ago and as of now i dont have any tools since i was waiting till i got it wired to buy crap. parts wise all these compressors are the same just different colors. just re-badged and sold under a diff name.

later on im gonna run lines around but for now and what my wallet would allow i just have a line coming off the side with an water catch can.

as far as the company they seem pretty decent.
