Junk Title vs. Salvage Title The differences explained.

Post by SuzukiGhostRider »

Ok, so I've been asked ALOT about "not being able to title or insure" a salvage title. So apparently, there are a lot of "car guys" out there who are clueless on what a Salvage Title vs a Junk Title means.

A Salvage Title is a car that was wrecked, totaled out by the insurance company , and then bought back by the owner or sold at an insurance auction, and rebuilt to factory road worthiness. These cars then, since they were given "total loss" by the insurance company are issued as Rebuilt or Salvage Titles dependent upon your states DMV laws. They are VERY much insurable, titleable, and driveable and able to be tagged. No more hassle than doing the same with a regular title.

A Junk Title on the other hand , means the car is screwed. It will never see a roadway legally again. Unless your state allows you to rebuild the car and have it inspected earning a rebuilt title. Getting a car to revert from Junk Title though is VERY tough in almost any state. A lot of red tape.

What a Junk Title means:

The car is not legal and/or safe to be driven on roadways. It may not be titled to do so. It may not be legally tagged. It may not be legally insured.

In other words, the car is only good for parts for the rest of it's life or a race car, derby car, etc.

Everyone see the difference now?
