Computer "re-directing"?

My PC keeps re-directing me to Google or some other damn thing when I search a specific word, such as "berettanet".

No biggie, I tried to reply to let you know but I don't even know if you got it.

Yep. IF you don't find anything, go and download either Microsoft Security Essentials, or Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

These will help if you have trouble, and may find things your current full anti-virus doesn't. On that note, if your current AV program is not cutting it, remove it and switch to Avast. (http://www.avast.com)

Oh, and you may have to go to safe mode to run (and get rid of) some of these types of viruses. You can also check your browser settings:

Go to Control Panel from the start button.

If you are on XP skip to the next step. For Vista and Windows 7, switch the control panel to "classic view" so we can find this next part. (we can switch it back later)

Look for "Internet Options" and open it.

On this, you have tabs. Look for "Connections" and click it.

Under this page, look for "LAN Settings" and click that.

Make sure you are clicked on "Automatically detect settings" and NOTHING ELSE is checked. You should NOT be using a proxy server unless specifically set for it by a network (such as a business with a specialized firewall/proxy setup). You can review the proxy settings, and if they are set to "local host" and some numbers then definitely uncheck the proxy server. This is where the virus or spyware redirects your internet traffic specifically, outside of hijacking the browser which is not as effective as this.

Once those are done, just hit "Ok" on each window as you go out.

I'm willing to bet you either have that, or a browser hijack going on which one of the above two should find. Either way, you need to get it out.

Use Malwarebytes as well. It finds a lot of stuff. Much more thorough then Microsoft Security Essentials.

That did it Pat! Norton and MS Essentials didn't find anything.

Malwarebytes Free download found a Trojan and some tracking cookies.

i used that one of of my computers and it found some things. even though i stick to pretty much the same sites every day.

You're using Norton?? fail. Take that off and get Avast like Ace said. It's damn good. Your computer will be running so much better. Last time I checked Norton was a mad resource hog.

Well Avast isn't the end all be all of antivirus programs, but I do love the pirate theme they have for it. heheh

For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, go to the Settings, then Language portion, then choose Install Additional Languages, then look for Pirate Talk. Install it, then back on the Languages choice page you can choose between English or Pirate Talk. The menus and the voice dialogue will all then change.

Its pretty cool. I have never seen an anti virus program try to make it fun as well as work good to protect a computer.
