1996 Z26 Interior Question?

Post by 96Z26 »

Hey guys,

I have a question on the 1996 model Z26 interior. On the door panels, on my Z26 the material is like the carpet on the base models. But, all the 92-95 Z26's I have found in yards have a material more like the headliner? Did they change the door panels on the 96 Z26, or could it be my car got base model door panels?

Sounds like someone switched out the door panels on your car; they are supposed to have the smooth material similar to headliner material.

Those panels pop out, so if the rest of the door panel is in good shape, you should be able to recover them to whatever you want with a little patience.

Well, the thing is I got the car off the original owner. He told me that is the way he got the car? .....new in 96. And knowing this guy...he did not change them out.

96z26 you know that nitrous bottle in your avatar is mounted backwards right? The bottom of the bottle should be at the back of the car so when under power all the nitrous is at the base of the bottle where the pickup straw is.

I have nothing good to give to this thread other than my 96 has the carpet type material... But that's a base conversion ;)

It should be the same material as the seats (not the center inserts but the rest). Might be a Friday car... haha

That's an audio oriented bottle, sir =). If he put it the other way I think he'd lose the effect of it being a real NOS bottle.

Mine seems to be the same way, with the wrong material on the door panels. (=P of course mine is a base model hehe).

What I really would like to do, is cover the rear panels with the same material so they looked less cheap.

Didn't the real Z26 come with the rears covered with material too? Something did because I remember seeing it before, unless someone just did it.

And DOH!! on the NOS bottle... LOL

My Z26 did not have rear cloth.

I know some of the older interiors did but i'm not sure which ones had the cloth.

Yeah 93 and older had it, then they cheaped out with the 94-96 lol. Something about that big plastic spot just irks me. It's just got the bulge where the covering should be lol.

I've never owned or driven any other passenger cars besides Berettas. (besides what my woman at the time has at the time) And, strangely enough, I've never even ridden in the back of one. So I never realized just how ugly that bulge is until I just went out and sat in the back of my 96. Wow.

I like my GTZ.

Lol! Yeah. I mean I don't notice it all of the time, but I think it would look a lot more finished if it had some fabric on it.
