fuel smell?

Post by jene »

So this seems odd to me.... when it gets really cold at night (35 degrees or lower) and i wake up in the morning and start my car i get a strong gas smell and it even goes into the driver cockpit it is so bad.... so I will go drop the kids off at school, come home and the car sits for a few hours before i drive it again. when i drive it again.. NO GAS SMELL! it seems to be only when it is cold out that this happens... and so far only the first start of the day.. maybe because it warms up outside during the day?? not sure... or a "first start" issue...??????

Check the purge canister line that goes back down behind the coils to the purge solenoid. If that's not hooked up properly you could be smelling the vapor coming from the fuel tank. Mine had a bad gas smell and I found that was disconnected, hooked it back up and it went away.

IIRC she is a 94 or 95, so no she wouldn't have a plastic one.

There is a rubber diaphragm type thing in the regulator... cracks exposed when it was shrunk (cold), and disappeared when it warmed up.
