Resurrecting a 1995 Beretta

Post by prowlerjc »

We've decided to resurrect my wife's Bertta and get it running again to sell it. Here's the deal.

We parked it 3 years ago, but started it once a month and ran it for about a half an hour to keep everything charged/lubed/in generally good condition. About 18 months ago, with the gas almost out, I slacked off and the car sat.

I replaced the battery, put it a gallon of fresh fuel, and now the car cranks, but will not run. I'm suspecting a fuel problem due to the old gas. I can hear the fuel pump humming when I cut the key to run...should I let it run for a minute or so to charge the system with fuel, if the fuel evaporated?

I think I'll probably go with dumping a couple of more gallons of fresh fuel and some injection cleaner, let the pump run for a minute or so, then see if it'll start.

Help me get this car running again so we can get it sold. Any ideas? otherwise, I guess I'll have to call AAA.

My car sat for 6.5 years and it started with that gas in it, so I would look elsewhere for your problem, check for spark!

Yeah, but did it sit empty, or close to it that long?

I just did the same thing. Mine was only sitting for about a year and a half. I put a new battery in it, new gas and injetor cleaner. It's a 4cyl. and it has decent miles and a fairly new head. It sarted right up, and ran well for the first couple of days, but now when it's running it has this terrible metalic noise coming from the alternator or something. I don't know. just figured I'd share that. I'm also selling it.

It had about an 8th of a tank in it. Remember to change your fuel filter!

Still no joy. I'm suspecting a clogged filter, since it is original to the car.
