94 Quad 4 to V6 conversion?

I just bought a 94 z26, which has a 95' Quad 4 in it. It was originally a HO, but the guy said it was swapped out awhile ago. Anyway, on the drive back the headgasket went bad. I had to drive the car another 30 minutes like it was, spraying oil/coolant all over the engine bay. Got it back to my house, and all the coolant lines caught on fire... no joke! I've been looking for a Quad 4 for about a month now, and only found one. It's from a 90 GTZ, and seems to be seized and has sat a few years. Would this motor be rebuildable? I am on a budget, the motor is $300 and I don't want to spend more than $700. Option 2, I can buy a running and good working 94 3100 for $500(Body is rough!). What kind of work would be involved in swapping it into my Q4 retta? I plan on staying 5 speed, so I would pick up a 93-94 Getrag 282 from a Cav. This trans has an internal slave so my clutch pedal and master should work with it? The VSS should work as well? I have some background in these motors and cars, coming from 1-2nd gen J's.

Where are you located? I can find running Q4s for 300 dollars all day. Swapping a V6 for a 94 quad would be a travisty and an utter waste of time.

To answer your question, that quad you did find has different mounts, and youd need those extra pieces as well. You cant use the side mount on that older casting IIRC.

Its really quite simple actually. If you are able to do some minor re-wiring of the engine harness without getting confused. All of the mounts are the same on the car in a quad vs a v6 for 92+. You will have everything you need from the parts car.. and if you want to, you can swap the whole harness/ecm from the donar car and make things really simple. Only thing you need, like you say is a 5 speed from a v6 car, OR if you can find just the bellhousing you can swap them.

I'd swap the V6 in. Nothing like a nice well optioned 5-speed chassis for a good swap candidate.

While any year would work, doing a swap with the 96 OBD-II parts would be the ultimate situation. Just dissect the 5-speed components from your engine harness and swap them in for the automatic counterparts on the V6 harness.

If you were to swap the v6 in, you need the mounts, trans, pedal and hydraulics, wiring and patience. This is not a simple weekend swap. It takes time and i can guarantee that its gonna cost you more than 700smackers by the time your done with it.

Ive driven and built cars that are way faster than any 3500 5 speed car. And regardless if they cars are going to be "worth" anything (thanks Barrett Jackson) a little prominence about it being an original 94 Quad is nice.

Have you ever driven a FI quad stroker? Again apples to oranges I guess. Just as quick. If I have it done by June and youre at Indy Ill show you. Thats in question now as I have several projects to split my time between.

I like the idea that I can make over 125 HP per liter.

I really want to keep the Quad 4... my Z is getting a 3400 next week I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. No quads in the area, anyone want to ship me one haha ;D

I would still rather have a 3400 in my Alero for driving pleasure, even if it's only one of 482 5-speed Ecotec coupes produced in 2004 (and it's really 1 of 1 with it's options combined). Hopefully a M62 will make up for it.

No argument there. It should at least be a 2000+ 3400 on OBD-II

Hope your computer is better than the Cav's Cliff. There are alot of guys that are having idle problems with the M62. They tune and tune,but just can't get it right.
