Re: My GTZ Returns!
I would call that more of a scuff, but im not there. Can you feel it? Did you re ring the pistons? I didnt read your original build thread.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
yeah my original build thread isnt on this site or the former bstuff.
I didnt feel the scratch/scuff, bore is still baby smooth. The rings and pistons were new when i built the motor, so only about 30k on both. The pistons are .030 overbore as well.

I wouldnt worry about it then, if your gonna re ring the pistons then id run a bottle hone through the bore, but if its smooth i dont think theres a real issue.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Yeah, theres not really a reason to rering with such low miles if everything else is looking good.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
I haven't re-ringed yet and I'm over 40k on my engine now. I'll probably re-ring it next year and get the whole thing balanced. I had the pistons out last year and all the cylinders looked great so I figured there was no reason to touch it. But I did do all new Clevitte bearings since I was doing the cam ones.
IIRC I put about 15k on it when I had it in the red car and I installed it in the pink car when that had 76k on the odo... and I'm up to 98k now, engine had 4k when I bought it.

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Well, last night i blasted out to my dads and grabbed a bunch of the aluminum from my car to have put in a hot tank today to get all cleaned up. Lots of stuff to have washed.
I also tore apart the spare W41 motor i have to get the cams out. Motor had a blown head gasket (surprise surprise) and it sat for over 5 years with nothing being done to it. So last night, i put it up on the stand to get the cams out of it, and discover the motor wont turn over, at all. So, i tear down what i can, get to the cams, check them out (they look fine) and decide to pull the head to see whats up. Turns out, the gasket blew at number 1 cylinder and the rings rusted to the cylinder walls. I have it soaking in W40 right now to try and get it to spin, im wanting to use that motor as a spare if i need it.
I have better condition tires that im getting installed on the rims i just bought (tires on them are shot to hell). Im hoping, that if i do not have work tomorrow, that i can reassemble the motor and have it ready to go back in the car. However, im still waiting to order the Exedy clutch from Amazon as i have been broke lately (still waiting on the refund from Rock Auto for the other clutch). Then i can make some progress and start prepping the car to receive its guts once again. I should have some pics up later today.
Keep checkin back!

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Aight, so i got some pics of things earlier this evening of a couple things. First are the wheels, they are 17x7.5 and i just had a set of Hancook 225/45ZR17s. The rims are in pretty good shape and so are the tires i got from my friends dads. The tires are used, but in good shape. The tires that were on the rims were garbage. They are MSR wheels, which are made by American Racing as a type of tuner rim. Surprisingly they are lighter than the 16" Konigs i had on the GTZ a while back.

I also got a couple pics of the w41 cams. They are a bit dirty and need a mild cleaning but, overall, they were in fantastic shape for 94k miles.

As far as i know, this is by far the lowest mileage W41 set of cams i have seen or heard of anyone installing in their car.
I have all these parts, only thing i am waiting on is the clutch kit. However, that will not deter me from assembling the long block this weekend
I will have more pics by sunday.
My car is coming back together quickly, i cant wait to drive it with these cams, and all brand new clutch parts. With the new wheels, the car should look pretty sharp

Re: My GTZ Returns!
Aight, i have received some verbage wanting some pics of how the wheels look on the car. Well, today i got them installed so i could wheel the car around and get the engine bay cleaned up some, and blow all the dirt off the car. My poor car has been sitting for so long theres dirt everywhere
Heres some pics of the wheels on the car inside the shop, a pic of the clearance with the N-body brakes, and right after i hosed her down with the power washer.

And before anyone says anything, yes i know about the lug nuts, im missing two right now, gotta get them on monday if i can. I also did some more paint peeling on the car while i was washing her down.

I also was able to get the spare W41 motor unstuck today as well. I guess the WD did help, but in the end, it all worked out. I do have a hone that i have never had a chance to use, so i stuck that down cylinder 1 and cleaned up all the garbage that was keeping it from "popping" up all the way to the deck. Why is this motor relevant to my build? Technically its not, but when my current motor craps out, thats the short block thats gonna replace it
Heres a quick pic of it with the piston tops cleaned up and some light cylinder clean up. It now spins over nice and freely!

Re: My GTZ Returns!
A couple other things, i got a smaller 00 TC starter to install and replace that big huge hunk of junk starter the car comes with.

I began getting parts prepped for paint and started painting them. So far, i have the block repainted, oil pan, intake manifold, water pump housing, and t-stat housing all painted up. Before they were all kinds of bright, brilliant colors. This time, everything thats aluminum, is getting repainted with cast coat aluminum vs that high heat, high shine stuff i used before that looked like false chrome. The block and the W41 cover are the only things that are getting painted something other than stock. The block back to the red i had before, and the cover is getting the same color and then polishing off all the raised areas.
Block drying from the paint as well as the cover. I dont have any pics of the other parts yet.

Tomorrow, i should be able to get the long block back together and sealed up tight. As far as reassembly goes, the only thing i have done so far is the rear main seal and gasket. Tomorrow, the oil pan, head, cams/towers, and timing housing and guts will be put back on.
More coming!
