Post by ShaneLT(ShaneZ26) »

Hope someone can help. My ebrake handle doesn't stay down it springs back up. Like it don't lock down. Anyone know what the problem could be, or what part I need.

Well first off, what year is this? My parking brake is a handle next to my shifter and is pulled up and it clicks into place, so the description of handle doesn't stay down, doesn't make much sense. It's down when disengaged unless its a pedal type, which I didn't think our cars ever came with that. But if thats the case, then you need a new pedal assembly. I had to replace that on my fathers Jimmy because his park brake would not stay engaged.

If it's the handle and it's floping around then your cable may be broke so you have no spring/return pressure on the handle itself to pull it back down therefore it will bounce up and down, but it should not have spring pressure pushing in the engaged direction... either way the only way to find out whats wrong is take the center console apart and see what the cable and handle assy is doing.

Well its the handle type. And yea it does not stay down in the disengaged position. I know the cable is still good I just checked it and well it works. LOL. But yea I figured I would just have to pull it apart, but just thought I would check and see if anyone else hadthis prob and knew how to fix it.
