Where do these wires go?

Okay, i'm stumped. This is my '94 2.2L daily driver. I was driving it home from work one night, in about a foot and a half of snow when it just crapped out on me. It would crank and crank and crank, but wouldn't start. After getting it towed back to my garage and letting the snow melt, I decided to open her up and see what was wrong. That's when I noticed that these 2 wires were 'chopped'. I couldn't find from where. It is a dark green and a black wire coming out of the alternator wiring harness. I have no idea if this is the real problem, but broken wires are definitely a red flag.



Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just want to get her running again!

I want to say they are for your AC ? but i could be wrong, I would be checking basics like Spark and Fuel first.

Hmm, I'm getting spark, but not fuel. I can hear the pump buzz every time I turn the key, so I don't 'believe' it's the pump. It will only start with starting spray, and will die as soon as I touch the gas. I followed the wires around, but it makes no sense. The green one seems to be going to the injectors, but i'm still not 100% positive. I'm getting to the point of just pulling the engine to see what the wire goes to exactly. None of the JY's around here have a 2.2 anything sitting around, and the setup on my 3.1 is different, so I can't use that to compare.

if anyone can confirm if the wiring is the same from the 1995 obd1.5 i can scan you all the wiring diagrams from the factory service manuals. PM me if you find out more

I have the '94 service manuals. I just don't have the books on hand at the moment; they're in the car. If the diagrams are still needed, I can bring the book in tomorrow & find/scan them.

Ok, I just made an assumption on what diagram to pull up. I was looking at the table of contents for the 2.2 wiring/diagnostics & followed the page to "engine cranks but won't start", along with the location of the wires... otherwise I'd end up spending forever posting up every diagram. Gotta start somewhere, so if this is the right chart, great, if not, maybe someone can point in the direction of the proper diagram & I can upload it.

In the diagram dark green connects the PCM and injector driver 2 & 3. The black connects the PCM and Ignition control B (to the coil driver/spark plugs).

Thanks so much. What kind of book is that diagram out of? That sure beats the hell out of the ones in the Chilton and Hayes manuals! So, now I gotta jack her up and see if I can find where in the hell those wires busted on the way to the PCM, before they hit the firewall.

If you ebay (I don't know where else you may find them) for "[year] service manual" you should find some.. maybe. That's where I got mine. They're basically the manuals shops had for repairing the cars. They are extremely worthwhile to have if you can find them.

both of those functions vs where those wires are located leads me to believe they belong to something else. I see no purpose in GM routing those two wires up and near the Alternator...

Me either! That's why I wasn't sure it was the injectors or not. Went out today, jacked the car up. I took quite a few pictures and followed the routes of the wires. The wires from 2 of the injectors (the other 2 use Blue wires) match the color of the wires coming out by the alternator. The symptoms fit too. I'm not getting fuel, since it will start with starting fluid and kill if I hit the gas.

I just don't see why they were routed that way to begin with, or where they were cut from. I just made payment for the set of service manuals on ebay. Looking forward to receiving them in the mail.

The service manuals are awesome. They definitely cover way more than the Chilton or Hayes manuals. Those wires went to the A/C. The reason I couldn't find them is that they were broken off right at the plug. I decided to do a bit more testing, so I pulled the fuel filter and it seemed fine, a tad dirty, but it's old. Since it was only a 10$ part I decided to replace it any way. Got the new one in and it started to want to fire. After a few more times of letting the pump re-pressurize the system it started!
