What is this?

Post by Money pit Beretta »

I found an inner shield or what ever you want to call it between the wheel well and the door. Well I found what was left of it that is. Starting to think it has something to do with my water leak.
The only way to see it is to open the door half way and look between the door and the fender from the outside. Because mine is gone I can see the wheel well.

I can post a somewhat worthless pic of what's still there if needed.

Its simply another splash blocker but I doubt it's what's causing your leak, that's probably coming from the firewall like all other leaks.

Speaking of that I need to buff my fenders and doors after last year's october 12'sec runs... lots of rubber marks still left after cleaning it off.

my car use to leave nasty rubber on the road, but since changing my tires twice so far on the fronts, i cant get it to leave marks, but it smokes and spins like heck. my driveway used to be all black lol. my firebird prob has about 15 sets tires in the rear wheel wells all from 1 day LOL. My cousin had his head and arm out the door 1 time and the belts blew and left some nice marks on his arm, and up the side of the car but been painted since then.

Water leaks suck man, i cant figure it out either, when i pull my engine i will re seal everything.

I have re sealed the whole cowel even though it looked fine, the heater box. around my steering coloum and everything thing else i could get near with the engine still in. i pulled my subs out not long ago to find my spare tire hole full to the top with water and ice very disappointed to see that, there is no rust i dont understand where the heck it leaks... One day it was raining i went out to check it, looks to come in the corners theres a lip there and the rear seam directly below the tails right in the very corner is where it comes in, so for the time i put some silicone there (all i had at the time) and if it rains really hard it still finds its way around that silicone i can see little water beads where its coming in but its not near as bad as before.

As for the front, i have pulled the carpet back while its raining and could not see anything other then possibly coming around the shifter cable boot, so i sealed that up, it poured here the other night, and my floor is still wet, its really errrrrking me cuz the paint is now starting to bubble on my drivers floor and it was just like brand new. this really sucks. i have a small steam cleaner i suck it up every time and let it dry.

Next time it rains ill park it facing down hill see if that helps LOL. or start throwing my cover on it if i know its going to rain. at least until i get my other engine and ready to go in and when this one is out everything will be re sealed.

Maybe having a kickass stereo does not help when there is leaks, just pushes pressure out of the areas and makes it worse, my windshield will buckle a small amount when i crank it up, maybe its leaking around the window but i dont think this is the cause.

The strange thing is that the other shield is in line with the main drain on the side under the hood. My cowl area should be ok, it was one of the first things I did when I got the car. My wheel well is mint. No holes or cracks.
Yeah I need to get back on the leaks.
Beretta I know what your talking about, everytime I think I have it fixed a month or two later it's back.

this is just stupid LOL. its pouring like heck today and i have had my cover on the car until i had to drop my bro off and go back and pick him up this afternoon and i have sucked the water up with my steam cleaner both times when i got back.

its still coming in the back, just enough to say you can see it beading off that very rear lower corner seam. Under my dash i only had some gasket maker at the time and tryed to stop this leak in the winter, all under the hood every where i can reach i have put urethane sealant around everything.

Under the dash doesnt look pretty but thats all i had and it was messy im going to peel it all off and urethane it soon too but at the time i used what i had.

Here is a quick video i just done today mind you it is pouring hard, doing 50mph i couldnt see with the wipers full board and its hail and rain mix.

Is your leak this Bad LOL..... its like a river flowing inside my car, un believable

alot of water did you see my video LOL. thats insane, i never seen it leak like that before, but it was alway POURING hard.

I think its coming around my steering column thats what it looks like but could be leaking some where else and just looks like its coming there, its frigen weird and frustrating lol. i will have time now i can park it and yank the engine if needs be and re seal everything, i got a 96 Z now i can drive for a while and slowly work on the 88.

You have the typical hole in your firewall near the power steering mounting points, OR its leaking where your brake booster bolts to the car, or its leaking on this seam.

yeah i know its around there somewhere, but until i can rip all the stuff off to get to that its going to stay as is for now, i hate having it leaking though, but i steam clean it up all the time to keep as dry as possible, my paint on the floor is starting to peal from the moisture over the winter. i need to get at it very soon though. its really disappointing. i sealed up in the fall what i could get at with out un bolting everything off the firewall and it seamed to have stopped it then or at least slowed it down, but over the winter i guess some water probably got down in the cracks and froze and would loosen it back up again.
