1990 Indy Yellow Pace Car, lots of questions

Post by indyyellow »

Looking at one. What do I need to know. I know the color is rare. Was the indy package added at the dealer or came from factory like that?
What suspension package is under it?
Is the digital dash specific to this indy car?
Basically other then the paint and badging is there anyting mechanically diff from a run of the mill Beratta?
Does it share any performace stuff from the GT or GTU I think it is called?

The Indy model was not a dealer installed package, it was a separate model offered from GM that came from the factory like that.

It has FE7 suspension (what came on the GTZ's).
Digital dash is not specific to the Indy model; that same dash option was available in other 87-90 interior Beretta's.
Engine/trans wise it's identical to a GT.

Indy's came with special colors and decals, GTU ground effects, GTU mirrors, GTZ spoiler, special embroidered seats with stripes the same color of the car going through the seats, black leather steering wheel, and directional GTU wheels with the inserts painted body color.

There might be more, I'm no Indy expert.

Does this site MODERATE ALL POSTS or do I eventually get to a place where my posts don't get held up for moderation. It is sorta a pain in the butt.

So what are the WEAK points in these 90 Beretta's? Does it have a timing belt or chain?

Chain. Gasket leaks, interior leaks, and rust are the prime problems with these cars

Well the car is rust free from what I can tell (I know where to look for when I buy cars, not braggin just saying...) other then it starting on the rocker up near the front of the door jams. Easy fix.
The exterior of car is fine, faded here and there but all the stuff is on it that should be. Rims are in great shape, none of the ground effects are beat up. I do note that there is no HUGE Indy sticker on the doors like I have seen in my study of this car. It does have a indy stick, smaller one running along the front mid section of door, but all other stickers are where they shoud be.
Interior is the worst. Headliner falling, dash pad cracked, digital cluster is not all working well, though I can see the key things, oil pressure etc. Dash pad is bad, cracked, sun/heat warped. Seats are fine, carpet is very cleanable, door panels are decent, rims are fine, runs well, no smoke at start or drive. I drove it, pushed it some for about 30 min. Still no smoke fired up right away when hot, no noise from the otor at all, trans shifts fine, trans fluid is a decent red color, nice green coolant, oil needs changed.
The car is on one of THOSE lots you see on the seedy part of town. This dude jsut buys them and gets them running and pushes them out the door. IF you know what your looking at you can find a decent one there, I have in the past. Speedo cluster portion that aint real clear is the MILES. SO I dont know what they are, assuming HIGH.
They want 1400 for it.

Well the wife went and did the dirty work and beat them on the knee's and go the car OUT THE DOOR for 1200. Son is elated. I realize it will need work that I don't see now, it is a old GM product from a time when they did not build stuff well but if it made it this far it must have been one that got done right.
