1988 pwr steering rack noise?

Hello again,
My 1988 gt's power steering rack whines and groans badly, would replacing the relief valve solve this or should I just swap the rack?

Please be aware that wenhave a repair section on the board where an inquiry like this should be posted. I'm sure a Mod will move it.

My opinion is that the whine and groan are the result of cavitation in your PS pump. I would try replacing the pump first, as it is easier and less expensive than a rack replacement. I just replaced my PS pump for this same symptom, and I'm losing count, but I believe it is now the 4th pump in this car.
