Re: project 4444z HELP!!
Valid point on the booster. I wasn't thinking clearly. Your mechanic is likely right Speedy.
Re: project 4444z HELP!!
i went to the junkyard, found a lot of goodies, found my airbag in a 92, i found a speedhut cluster overlay, its red, a sunroof bag, and a sunroof, but i didnt grab that, i grabbed 2 kenwood 6x9 kickers, i found an alluminum guage overlay, and some other little odds and ends, all for around $40. theres a dash i would like to grab, but i need to find the time, and i may have found a set of seats for it, but im not sure yet...

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
i also bought a new master cylinder today, we put it in, bled the lines, and the pedal felt great all around... untill i started the car, then it just went right to the floor and had that spongy feel, if you drive it, you'll stop, but it takes a about 40ft to stop at like 10mph, let alone if you went any faster....

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
When you put your foot on the pedal and push it and hold at that point, does pressure bleed off or does it hold?
If it bleeds off you have a bad caliper, wheel cylinder, or master.
If it holds decent you need to double check your rubber lines. Start the car and have someone stand on the pedal and inspect each line. The front lines usually rip right at the brackets or inside the cover sleeves. Check the rear lines too. I usually stomp my pedal as hard as possible to try to break anything that is on its way out. Its better to catch it at your house instead of on the road.
I rebuilt my master and its very easy. I can do it for you if you want.

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
I was gonna say next in line is the calipers and wheel cylinders...It definately sounds like the booster is working great... almost too good...
If you want to test something else, Pull the Vac line going the booster and then take it for a ride with no power assist and see how it works.

Just be sure to plug the line with something though....

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
I figured I didn't have to explain that part... LOL
Re: project 4444z HELP!!
didnt get to try that yet, however, today i went to the junkyard, i found a mint dash in a 92 wich also had a 5 speed in it, with the 3.1l, it has 250k on it though... i also managed to find mint drivers and passenger dew strips, not a crack, in and outer... and i managed to find 6x9 kenwood kickers, and 4x6 pioneers for the kick panals, all i can say, is it was a dam good day at the junkyard.

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
well just remember with no booster your brakes do not work anything like they would normally work, you need to push like hell to get them to stop... But the pedal stayed at the top? Definately sound like something else is not holding pressure somewhere but there isn't much left in the system.
Symptoms are backwards from a bad booster but its almost sounding like something is going on with it... extremely odd...

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
That's not quite what I meant but ok... speedy try what sgr says let us know if it works or nit... I still don't think it will change anything.
Still stands when a booster goes bad it will make the pedal a firm as when there is no vac... not a softer pedal since that's what it's meant to do.

Re: project 4444z HELP!!
going to try bleeding it again with my dad tomorrow hopefully, i got a feeling we didnt do it right, how we could screw it up, idk, but im sure we can.
so now to my to do list-
fix instrument cluster lights
replace the dash
check brake pads
install air bag that was mysteriously removed??
fix the brakes
fix the marker lights(wires are just hanging there?
inspection
wash and wax
new seats
new carpet
try to get paint off the kick panels or replace them(any suggestions?)
redo the headliner(whole thing is missing??)
install aftermarket radio with some new speakers
eventually get a white bumper or have this one repainted(i have a mint brm one if anyone has a white one i'll trade with a couple extra bucks??
replace the dew strips along the doors.
tint the windows, of course the sunroof too.
get the paint on the fendor fixed and the dents pulled out of the door.
redo the wheels.
find someone who makes gtz decals and order a set. (anyone know anyone who makes them?)
i think thats all for now, i plan more, a lot more, a built motor eventually, and new paint.
