Not just any old AGP either... 8x Pro slot, not that I use the pro though...

Here, found the old CPU-Z validate page.... Same as it is now.

I just meant a different level of raid... like 10... LOL Granted you would need 8 discs to have the same space you have now.

Ace that AGP card dates that PC... lmao.
Well, all I need it to do is host the eSI service manual software and maybe stream some video which is pretty well pulled of the internet anyways.

My desktop I use everyday has 2 dual core 3.0 Ghz E5160 Xeons, 32GB of RAM and a HD4870 video card.

That first one I built cost me around 1500. The Quad tower was around a grand originally, I sold it for 800.

You and your flashy Taiwanese made computer cases.. I was in the case modding scene before it existed. Me & couple friends were running over clocking and computer 'tuning' website in late 1990's. I was 15 yo back then and still had interest (and time) to do such things. :)

I dug up few old pics from that time:

Image
This was my teenage-modded PC in 1998 or something. Fully customized airflow and sound proofing blabla..

Image
And to celebrate my first gigahertz (oc'd Athlon 750), i did build a speed display to it. People who used early 486 computers in should see the irony in this.

Image
Year or two forward, the I had added 3 windows to the case and full disco-lightning with strobes. Also 2-tone paint job that is already chipped badly in this picture, i visited LAN-partys very often in those days. Also installed wheels to the case. Most of this was never seen before stuff in the yearly 2000.

Image
In 2003 i maxed out my displays with 4 CRT's on desktop. Now 8 years later I only use 2 LCD's and a laptop. The desk is still the same, highly modified tho.

In those times i kinda left the scene, it had turned too commercial and mainstream what caused me to lose interest.

I was also running total of 8 computer @ my home back in the yearly 00's. 2 workstations, linux and windows servers and rest were mostly running seti@home cluster

Oh ok, whew! I thought that case should be lined with gold or something to be that price. So yea, when I build mine, I'm gonna try to keep it at about $1K. Of course it'll be an i7.

A good i7 can run between 900-1500... Last one I helped build cost 650 JUST for the motherboard, memory and CPU for a friend here. And I know my brother's is in the 2k range, and his case alone was nearly 300. but it is a damn fine case. Antec with the removable, movable everything on it. Can even put the PSU in the top or the bottom, stuff like that. Its nuts. Has floating drive cables to hold the drives, they literally "float" in the case. Weirdest case I ever seen.

Anyways, try to up your budget a bit, you will be happier for it. Power supply and a really good motherboard are the main foundation of a good system. For that kind of build, a proper power supply should be around 750W or higher, and cost between 90-200 bucks. Corsair or PC and Cooling as a couple of brand suggestions, single 12v rail design if at all possible. Eliminates the need for load balancing. Don't be buying some flashy or cheap brand of PSU for your build. All the lighted PSU's do for me, is show you how much smoke it makes when it burns up. lol

If you really want some help looking when you are ready to build let me know and I will put together a list of items that should work well together. I build custom PC's all the time.

After tons of research, here's My plan:

Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case I love the simplicity of this case :)

ASRock Z68 PRO3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA SuperClocked 01G-P3-1563-AR GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16

CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V

Intel Core i5-2500K Overclocking imminent.

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Western Digital Caviar Black WD5002AALX 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5"

LG DVD±RW SuperMulti Drive Black SATA

COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

All these core-components will keep the base price > $1000. I switched from i7 to i5 as I will have absolutely no need for HT nor will I be running any programs that will take advantage of its capabilities. I say this build should be quite a decent gaming rig, yes? What say ye fellow geeks?

a gaming rig would imply playing games and all of the current ones use multiple cores pretty well if on a 64bit os

No pics because it's boring, but I just finally hooked up my RAID controller (HighPoint 4322) on my desktop with my 8-drive (WD740) RAID 6 array.

Even with the relatively old-tech hard drives.....

My latest acquisition is nice. Gateway ID58 Notebook.

Core2 Duo, 4GB, 500GB, slot DVD drive, b,g,n wireless, 17" (I think) screen, but it could be a 16.. Haven't bothered to actually measure it yet. lol Currently running Win 7 Pro 64bit. Seems to be fine. Had serious stability and a seeming motherboard problem. It has sat in my office on a shelf for nearly a year, tore it down while at the GF's (I had to tear hers apart too) and put it back together, now it seems to work fine so far.

Will have to put a legit OS on it at some point later, probably just pick up another OEM of Home Pre for it like I did the netbook.

Plenty fast enough, not a gamer machine, but don't care about that.

Don't like the keyboard very much, too easy to lose my place while typing. (I rarely look at the keyboard, learned to type the right way)

So yeah between the Gateway here and the Acer netbook, its a hard toss. I like this for the larger size, bigger screen, but the netbook just rocks for the portability and size. :P

Oh, and more good news...

I CAN FINALLY HAVE PHONE LINE BASED DSL HERE!!!! WHOOO HOOOO!! Monday I place the order for it! Already got me a new wireless router, as well as a magic jack on its way.

After a long time, I finally got my first piece for my game rig! It's an Antec One Hundred case. Only cost me $50. I like it. It's a handsome thing. No lights, no over-the-topness, no windows, subtle, to the point. Just how I like it.

I just upgraded my rig... I tried just doing a Q9650 and EVGA 790i board with dual EVGA GTX 460's in SLI but the 790i board didn't want to agree with my system and work properly... I think there is something wrong with it.

SO for the mean time I ran the GTX 460's on the 780i board I had with the Quad core 9650 replacing the E8400 dual core... It made quite a bit of difference in the performance of the system... Went from 9469marks on 3dmark Vantage to 21364marks that was running on the 790i though never did the 780i benchmark... so quite an increase on the video card front of things...

But I just wasn't happy... SO I just replaced about everything... lol

HAF 912 ATX Mid tower case
Corsair H80 CPU water cooling system
Intel i5 2500k 3.3ghz SandyBridge CPU
ASRock Z68 Extreme 7 Gen3 board (will support Ivy Bridge when it's released)
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB 2133mhz
Antec 900w High Current Gaming Power Supply

I'll get some pics up later today when the board processor and ram arrive, the box is half assembled... The one thing I don't like about my case is the fact that the inside is not painted, but if I care that much I can easily fix that problem.
