Bfest Car Prep Thread: How Are You Coming Along?
Re: Bfest Car Prep Thread: How Are You Coming Along?
Update!
All that needed repaired from my wheel incident was the ball joint! Awesome news!
However, the bell housing that I cracked is also being replaced at one hell of a cost. Sad face news...
So, 6 days to go and the car is essentially still in the same condition I posted above.
I can't believe how prepared everyone seems this year. Usually there is a lot more going on.

I brought the z to the speed shop the 3rd of march. And we still r not close to being finished. My goal was to have the car ready for Indy.Styluss wrote:

Re: Bfest Car Prep Thread: How Are You Coming Along?
Welp... my plans took one hell of a set back today...
Dropped the blackrocket off for an alignment at 7am this morning, got a call back at 11am saying the car is not alignable because it needs new wheels bearings... crap! The damn things are only about 3 years old and literally have less than 5,000 miles on them. Timken brand too, bought new from Rock Auto.
More than likely when I get new wheel bearings on the car I'll be switching back to stock sized brakes up front. I don't know if they adversely effected the wear - or perhaps the shop was just being full of crap... I'll be getting the car in my shop this weekend to get it up in the air and see if the issue is something dumb and small - but I kind of doubt that's the case. If it truly needs wheel bearings - I'll be riding shotgun with Baims this year... Between student loans, insurance due next week and trying to have some cash to enjoy the fest I just can't afford new wheels bearings on this short of notice.

I call BS on the bearings (at least being affected by the brakes).
Ask Boner, or Jen... I'm not all that easy on my car and the brakes/bearings are holding up fine. And I'd be willing to bet that my wheel/tire combo are heavier than yours.

The timken front bearings on the beretta are questionable, I know Mike has separated more than a couple on the autocross car...

The 4k~ish miles certainly haven't been easy.
I'm in debate mode... we'll see what happens once I get it torn apart.

I'd just say to get the ACDelco ones (part no. 20-25K)
Used ones have proved to hold up better than the new timkens.

Re: Bfest Car Prep Thread: How Are You Coming Along?
Just confirmed the junk wheel bearings. Checking on some prices now. I'd really like to have this bitch at the fest.
edit: The used stockers are in the garage with 113k ish on them. I'll have to dig them up and inspect.
edit: those are crap too.

No, but they're not long for this world. I'm not running the risk of that ^ happening.
