First Bfest Experience
Well, i finally have gotten around to getting on here and telling my story of how i felt about my first Bfest.
First off, let me say that I honestly didnt have that high of hopes for things when things first got started. I felt like it was just gonna be another typical car gathering with nothing but drinking and getting into trouble (heard the past stories). However, upon getting to the fest and attending everything that was going on, i quickly learned its much more than that. Sure, there is the typical drinking, but not like the magnitude i was expecting.
I started my trip off meeting up with Chad and Jen in Flagstaff and then heading out to our first night in Amarillo. After eating some rather tasty authentic Texas food, we decided to push thru Texas and on into Oklahoma for the night to make up some time. The next day we met up with Mindy in St. Louis and Ryan later on in Troy, IL. From hangin out with Chad, Jen, Mindy and Ryan that night, i knew the party was only beginning. When we got to Indy, we were among the first to arrive. A couple people had already been there a day, and earlier that morning. Ryan made everyone a nice taco bar that night and we had a blast hanging out any makin fun of Mindy while she tried to eat her taco that Ryan said was "too much of his meat for her mouth".
Next day, we had the rest of the people show up and for our first activity we did the indoor go karts. After a week and a half, but body still hurts from the areas i was restrained by. It was a very challenging night filled with extreme amounts of competition and wipe-outs. I was rather pleased with my driving as i made it to the championship placement race, but not to the championship. Needless to say, i was kinda thrilled as my arms, legs and my whole back was in pain from the carts. The final race was awesome and was quite the humorous deal when Pat decided he wanted to create a multi-car pileup to guarantee his first place finish. Everyone to this day still says he did it on purpose even though he said it was unintentional lol.
Friday we hit the Indy 500 Museum and got the view the Indy Vert. I wont go into to much detail there, but it was pretty freakin funny when the, i guess the museum curator, came and told us that the hood, doors and trunk being open on the vert was not authorized. We all got a bunch of pics of the car, got some souvenirs and preceeded to gather in the parking lot. Some of us then decided get some food, but were gonna meet up at the hotel first. We had a good time hanging out and eating a nice sit down lunch with most of the crowd. To which we were trying to find a specific place to eat, and when that failed, i got everyone over to a nearby Ruby Tuesdays. Food there was pretty good; our group consumed an entire area of the restaurant which was pretty funny as the people at the restaurant was not expecting us. At night we hit the drag strip about 100 miles to the northwest of the city. Jon (3400Modified) had left early to check out the scene and see what was up with the track to make sure they were open and it wasnt too busy. Me, Mike Pride with his GTZ, Chad with the quazar, Mark with his 3400 Z, One other guy with a 90 GTZ (cant remember his name). We had a small turnout, but had a great time. Of course, with mostly quads there, Jon with his 3500 took the taco on best time with a 13.1@109mph IIRC and Jeff Consel from the Q4 Forums with his QuadHO 5spd Corsy had the best quad time of a 14.8@95.
Next morning we had a massive gathering in the parking lot taking advantage of the hotel water and hose to wash all our cars for the car show. I think all but a couple people washed their cars and prepped them for the show in the parking lot. Some of us finished up at the park. There was a nice turnout at the park with 29 cars total in the show and a couple more non-berettas that parked by the ramada we were eating under and doing the door prizes. Ryan was cooking for everything one along with the Littles helping him out and Mike Pride organizing the rest of the day with his bull horn that i think he was enjoying talking with
We handed out all the trophies and got our bellies full and discussed board related ideas and then we headed back to the hotel for the "Closing Bfest Parking Lot Party" as i like to call it now. No one spared any alcohol, it was all consumed or donated to whomever would stomach it all. In the end, alot of us were pretty messed up. It was hysterical hearing Chad and Pat go back and forth with their funny comments and a couple other parts that i will not mention for national security sakes. Saturday night, was by far the most fun of the entire event. I dont think i have ever laughed so hard in my life as i had with with everyone that night.
Sunday morning, we had breakfast in Ryans room, got all our stuff packed and said our goodbyes to the new friends i had made and everyone else that we had a blast hanging out with. On our way out of town, we left Mindy in Troy, IL and Chad, Jen, Ryan and I headed our way back west thru upper Missouri and Kansas back to Denver. After staying the night in Salina, KS, we headed our way back to Denver. However that was a kill-joyed plan when a bored Kansas State Trooper thought we were using Chads escort lights to pull people out of our way, when that wasnt the case. I know there is a thread about this elsewhere so i wont go into detail on it.
I broke off from the group in Denver on the east side and headed to my sisters house where i stayed the night and spent the next day getting a lot of rest since i was pretty worn down from all the excitement. On thursday, i left Monument, CO and headed home. I stopped in Grants/Milan, NM and hung out with Mike (SGR) and then after a couple hours headed home. Spent the next day resting and relaxing, before going back to work the next day.
In the end, i want to go back. It was so much fun! The driving did kick my ass, but it was well worth it in the whole scheme of things

Lol good times! It was awesome meeting you, Geoff! I'm still running the gas station heater core bypass until I get the new one in =P.
I wish I would have taken video of the drive back from the track. It was like Beretta bliss. lol!
And by the way, my car is a base model =).

My first bfest was good too! Great to finally meet all of my friends!
Now that I finally have internet at my new house, I'm going to try to reorganize my facebook photos and add a few more of the funny ones I took...so look out!! I'll eventually get some of them posted over here.

Mostly you meet friends when traveling by accident, like by sitting next to them on the train, or in a restaurant, or in a holding cell.

It was good to meet you too, Mindy, even though all I said was "hi" and that I like your car lol!

LOL...yeah I tried to skip out on the late nights towards the end in preparation for early work on Monday (those first few nights of staying up till 4am killed me)snowblindburd wrote:It was good to meet you too, Mindy, even though all I said was "hi" and that I like your car lol!

I somehow missed out on telling quite a few good bye...a couple people caught me as I was driving away in the morning.

Re: First Bfest Experience
We got pulled over for Chad's towing lights. He has two in the grill of the car and the KC Sheriff wasn't having it. Even the Kansas State Patrol thought it was lame. They told us that they have to go off what the Sheriff was saying even though they thought it was silly. Apparently the Sheriff thought we may be using the lights to pull cars over. Nope! We were using the lights to let everyone know that there were precious Berettas coming through!

Re: First Bfest Experience
So do they pull over tow trucks with their lights flashing thinking they are pulling over other cars? Stupid cops... Almost as bad as them bothering me about my tint not fitting PA law.
it was a 13.1@105 BTW... I wish I got 109... LOL MAYBE this year when I go to epping again.
You know whats really scarry though... those ET mph to HP calculators exist and I did mine at 3140 lbs at 107mph and it comes up with 317HP, at the crank... and I asked Ben to do a simulation of my cam recently including with the 100 shot for reference so I could better map out a torque converter and the peak HP on that graph was 317... DEAD ON...... So maybe I wont see any higher than 107... LOL

Re: First Bfest Experience
Jon you really need to get your car on the dyno to see how close your calculations match. Looks like you have a really nice power band from about 4500k-7k.
