Low oil after low coolant message

Post by jmcsfr »

I have a 1995 3.1L v6 beretta 2d coupe. Today when I started the car I got a low oil level message on the dash. The oil was a little below the "low" mark on the oil dipstick but I bought oil today and instantly without thinking when I poured it in I just didn't stop pouring it. So the engine probably has around 5-9 quarts in it I put about 5 quarts in it a few days ago. Waiting for the car to cool down and then I'll flush and re-add the oil. I'm not sure what is causing the low oil. I'll be looking into the haynes manual for anything related too it, prior to this I had a low coolan message which is no longer on the dash when I start the car.

So I have some questions. Is there anything likely that would cause these effects? Low coolant, then low oil.. The oil does NOT look like coffee so I don't think any oil is getting into the coolant or vice-versa. The engine is running a little rough today theres a strong vibration when stopping-and-going. Any help is appreciated I'm thinking something is terribly fucked up Thanks.

Crank throws are slapping the extra oil, drain some out before you blow it up.

Holy crap man, drain the oil and start over again. These motors hold around 4qts, maybe a little more. If it is at the low mark on the dipstick, 1/2qts will bring you to full.
