OD Transmissions

Post by Chad91GTZ »

I have a 95 Chassis that I have 4 different plans for.

Right now I want it to be driveable until I make a decision.

Car has a 3 speed auto.

I want to have an OD as I live in the middle of know where and like the gas mileage.

Is there a thread somewhere to OD tranny swap? What is the best ratio/stall for the 2.2. What is the best ratio/stall for a 3500? Looking for options here.

Thanks Barry for reminding me I needed to ask this. haha.

95 came with a 3 speed? thats news to me. I thought they were all 4t60e's

For a 2.2 3.29 or 3.42 is your best bet since they used that on the 2.3L Quad N-body's that had the 60e, and a 2300 to 2700 stock stall type is probably desired.

Yeah I was shocked as well. Thanks for the info.

Any idea on what i need for the swap? I'm assuming I just need a L body 95 computer from a car with a 4 speed.

They used a 3-speed until 2001 on the 2.2 (4T40-E was optional in the 96+ J-Bodies)

So they never had an OD? Hmmm. Is there a non electronically shifted 4 speed auto that will bolt up?

Well that or doing a harness swap in some way... I'm not sure what ecm and harness is even in the 2.2's since it was a non electronic trans in there.

I'm probably going to go in a different direction rather than source a useless non electronic transmission.

But for reference, the three speed is a non e as well? I'm not harness swapping unless its to an Ecotech or something decent.

if its a 3t40 then yes its non electronic. Does it have a kickdown cable? My trans does not have anything like that. And I never heard of a 3t40e....

I wasn't paying attention. It's in the trunk of the car. I need an automatic transmission education.

The 3 speed was never electronic and it does have a throttle valve (kickdown) cable.

They really are a gutless wonder that 2.2 and 3 speed combo. I bet it could really benefit from an OD for mileage.

Or I could be a cool kid and do what everyone is telling me and just get a 3500 and get the same milage. Ugh I'm so undecided. I have three builds going at the same time.
