beefing up the 2.8 or swap something else in it?

Post by JAWS89GTU »

Ive been looking online for performance upgrades but really havent come across really anything... What would be some good swap combos for my car or what is anyone else using as far as performance wise?? i currently have the 2.8 with the stock auto tranny in the gtu.. the thing that blows is the cars got 274k, original engine, and the tranny is about 100k old... i have just completed my full restoration this week finally after 9 months in which i changed just about every single catagory part available.. thank god i work at an auto part store to get the employee discount i saved a ton of $$$$$$!!!

Thanks guys

or a 3400. Although for your GTU you'll be needing a custom motor mount to get a newer genereation motor in there and will take some work and tuning. This guy on V6z24.com is making some Custom Mounts for 2nd Gen J-bodies that will work perfectly for our early cars.

Do the 3500 swap you will not be dissapointed. The 3500 makes so much more power than my 3400 swapped car. Its a huge difference, but of course mine is obd2 so 3x00mod tuned it, youll have to talk to someone on here who knows about obd1 if your going to keep it obd1. Ill have track numbers for the 3500 soon so ill let you know, i just gotta get a better tune, its only tuned at the moment for bigger injectors.
