have any of you guys recover your own dash?

any one of you guys ever recovered your dash or had some one do it for you? mine is warped so bad that cutting the vinyl away or getting a new dash seem to be the only options. there is a guy in town that is supposed to be good at it but he doesnt own a shop. the "dashmats" look pretty flimsy and i know they wont hold down the curling. any of you guys DIY'd a dash make over?

Most I've seen done is a few guys have laid down fiberglass over the dash. It will never look exactly the same but I'm sure if you spent some time on it you can get it close enough to resemble what was there, just possibly minus the texture and stitch lines.

my dash has dried so much that the vinyl in the dip on the passenger side is too tight to lay flat

I've seen dash covers on ebay that are supposed to replace the top part of the dash, could check there.

anyone have an example of one covered in fiberglass? that dont seem like a bad idea, i though about going to an upholstry shop and seeing what they can do...

i saw those the other day and they dont make them for 94's. bad enough too that i went back to the jy to check on some stuff and realized the dash they had was busted up near the windshield.

Mine was done by Just Dashes. If I had to do it again, I would probably get it done by Apsis if they would do it.

i fiberglassed mine in the 88..

i have like 3 or 4 lawyers of fiber cloth about 5 liters of resin and lots of screws through it for support and a gallon of light duty body filler to smooth it all out and build out around the cluster and switches and vents ect. what i did was taped the vents and speaker covers and switches and put them into place, run some bondo around them and push them out before its fully cured then you can sand it and trim it down so its flush.

Its alot of sanding and a ton of work, i had my dash out for a year but only worked on it from time to time. currently still just primer since i put it in so i could drive the car and never got around to pulling it back out for touch up and paint yet but it does the trick.

I am no professional body guy but i like to play around with anything i can get my hands on lol and try my best.

i have one more option in a local car club/customizing shop. if that doesnt pan then i have no clue what else except for the molded carpet dash mats. even then the vinyl is rolling bad enough that i may have to screw it down near the windshield so the mat would fit flush like it is supposed to. the abs "dash caps" would be cool if they made them for 94 and up.

OR

i could just cut the vinyl away and do rhino liner or something

I had some material i tryed to glue onto mine to start with and i couldnt get it to bond and take hold, and i remember a time my cousin had his brand new car tore apart lol, maybe had 5,000 KM on it and tore apart the interior and he was fiber-glassing his door panels and stuff molding in some speakers. so thats where i got the idea to fiber-glass my dash and turned out decent compared to the old crappy peeling vinyl
