Re: My 3.1 V6 Turbo Swap/Restoration
Got some more work done, got the transmission bolted to the block, bolted the brake booster and the new steering rack back on to the body along with other minor parts. The engine gets dropped in officially on Sunday, with my car hopefully road ready by the end of next week!

Re: My 3.1 V6 Turbo Swap/Restoration
More progress has been made! Engine is bolted, I just need to repowdercoat my upper intake manifold, bolt that back on and I'm in business. I have a few electrical connections to be made as well as cut and install some more coolant hose, but otherwise things are finally shaping up! I'm not sure what I am going to do for my intercooler, the stock one can't be used, there isn't enough room and the connections would be a nightmare. I plan on having the car on the ground with all 4 wheels on it tomorrow.

Damn... you shoulda cleaned up the turbo! Make that sucker BLING in there like it should be.
I have to admit too... those are really intelligent setups for turbos in our cars and I dont know why everyone re-invents the wheel and tries to position the turbo elsewhere. Thats probably the best way to do it, keeping it mounted soild to the engine (With an added support) and away from the frame to avoid cracking any manifolds.
It also makes me realize how easy it would be to put a turbo in my car....... Damnit.

You do realize that once you get that thing running you are going to have a yellow belt? LOL Not to mention yellow flakes all over the bay from the pulleys....
And Jon, that's all you need. Turbo and NOS. LMAO You will be tearing the axles off the car.

It would be one or the other... not both... Right now in my head its Nitrous or SC... but the damn turbo looks easier to mount than an SC would be.DTMAce wrote:You do realize that once you get that thing running you are going to have a yellow belt? Re: My 3.1 V6 Turbo Swap/Restoration
Ya, the turbo isn't permanently bolted on, I was just "tacking" it on to make sure everything fit, I still need to clean it. I'm having a very tough time cleaning it, I've checked other forums and they claim to use brake cleaner to clean the carbon off, but that doesn't do much good, so I have been using diesel fuel which works better. I'm afraid to get the inside wet with anything so I've been very cautious when trying to clean it, unfortunately I'm not sure how to get it to "bling" really. I also am very tempted to drop the $1300 on a T-27 and just bolt in a bigger brand new garrett turbo to this setup, but I want to get it up and running for the moment. The flange for the rear exhaust pipe and the crossover pipe will fit a T-27 too, but do I really want 425 HP in my car is the question. I also originally thought I would have to do away with the ABS brake set up, but it looks like I may be able to keep it still. I also need to repaint the oil cooler and some other cosmetic things. I don't think the flaking from the yellow powdercoat on the belt will be that bad, the flakes that do come off the crank will blow off in the wind and come from inside the inner grooves, I don't think much flaking will occur with the water pump pulley, since I coated it 3 times. I chose to do the 3.1 Turbo swap over the 3400 swap because I don't need to cut up my unibody to make the engine fit, I just had to relocate the battery to the trunk and change the mounts from the TGP engine to the Beretta engine. My next issue is figuring out what sort of intercooler to use and how to run the pipes for it. Also this week I am driving 2 hours north to get my TGP chip reprogrammed for 30+ HP gain by a guy from the TGP forums.

Re: My 3.1 V6 Turbo Swap/Restoration
FYI, whoever said you need to cut the unibody to make a 3400 fit told you a lie, you already have the upper mount for the 3x00 style so it would have bolted right up with no issues You also have the same mount on the drivers side that would work with a 4t60/65e Which yes is wider, but if you had grabbed a 60e side cover from a 94+ beretta and a rear snout bracket from a 94+ you would have been able to use that 4-speed, and just use the 94+ axles for the auto cars... but oh well.
And don't fear a turbo, they aren't that complicated

I'll be goddamned. TGP stuff clears the ABS unit. Always wondered about that on a 92-93 3.1.
Looks like you've been busy man! Car should be a whole lot more fun to drive now, plus the ability to make more power just got WAY easier.

Yep, I actually went to the yard to get a non-ABS master cylinder before I even checked to see if it would fit, I assumed the ABS master cylinder wouldn't fit, so after I go and pull off and pay for a non-ABS cylinder, I noticed the fittings for my brake lines are smaller than the non-ABS master cylinder so I put on the ABS master cylinder and it fit to my surprise!

Re: My 3.1 V6 Turbo Swap/Restoration
Finished the powdercoating on my upper intake and front calipers, I'm in the process of making my own EGR delete plate on my milling machine at my garage (yes I know MRZ makes one, but $42 shipped in 2 weeks vs an hour of my time makes more sense to me), tomorrow I'll be going to the junkyard to get a new set of vacuum hoses that bolt to the throttle body. I had to modify my turbo downpipe with a flexpipe on the end for it to wrap around the transmission dip stick and heater core lines, I'm waiting for my black exhaust wrap to come in the mail, then everything will be permanently bolted down. I also had to rerun my heater core hoses as well as extend a few sensor wires. I'm still in the process of mounting the intercooler and still deciding how I am going to run my lines, I hope to have this running next week!
